Wondering if it’s somewhere like Hull or Grimsby.

Dan Worsley, Sunday, 2 June 2024 17:20 (three months ago) link

i thought Liverpool because of the purple bins. But it's too generic a picture

kinder, Sunday, 2 June 2024 18:41 (three months ago) link

I may post another

This is Dance Anthems, have some respect (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 2 June 2024 18:54 (three months ago) link

Bins are what took me there, its a match on that. Found some similar streets in the south, around Speke, similar mix of cream and red, also with the higher slope on roof and road/pavement state. But...its generic and I started to see what I wanted to see

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Sunday, 2 June 2024 18:58 (three months ago) link

A casual trawl through Penzance has a similar vibe but the bins are wrong.

assert (matttkkkk), Monday, 3 June 2024 00:32 (three months ago) link

was that wall repaired/rebuilt with different bricks? is that a clue?

StanM, Monday, 3 June 2024 03:14 (three months ago) link

The bigger clue is probably now the silver/grey van with blue diagonal

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Monday, 3 June 2024 03:20 (three months ago) link

I've no idea, but am always amazed at just how UK-ish just about any random pic of a UK street is. There's nowhere else on the planet those pics (particularly the first one) could be! Maybe Picardy or Flanders at an absolute stretch...

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 3 June 2024 03:39 (three months ago) link

Could it be Ireland? (asking as a Yank)

Mrs. Ippei (Steve Shasta), Monday, 3 June 2024 04:10 (three months ago) link

Unless someone can identify the city via its domestic bin configuration (blue bin + grey/darker blue (?) bin is unusual), there appears to be nothing else in either picture that would narrow it down much.

Wry & Slobby (Portsmouth Bubblejet), Monday, 3 June 2024 08:12 (three months ago) link

No, the silver van is possibly a clue but that styling is pretty generic.

Big blue bins have been the only thing so far that has eliminated any cities.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:04 (three months ago) link

Are blue bins that unusual? We have a dark grey bin for household waste, green bin for garden waste and a blue bin for recycling plastic, paper etc

Dan Worsley, Monday, 3 June 2024 09:14 (three months ago) link

We've only got grey for household and green for recycling. Garden waste your own responsibility to take to the tip or organise specific collection.

My parents have got 5 or 6 bins I think, and as I said above I found out the other week some Welsh councils don't have bins at all now but about 6 or 7 different bags and boxes.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:28 (three months ago) link

don't a strangely high number of these houses have new roof tiles? this with the repaired wall... was this a big disaster location maybe?

StanM, Monday, 3 June 2024 09:32 (three months ago) link

Nah more likely the council went through a roof replacement programme and the unchanged one in the middle had gone under right to buy so wasn't included.

Walls are replaced all the time - could have been due to other works.

These look like post war council housing stock of the 50s/early 60s.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:35 (three months ago) link

The ones behind the silver van are much newer

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:36 (three months ago) link

found it

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:49 (three months ago) link

Well done! You got it last night actually (Speke) but I didn't want to say anything when you were so close.

This is Dance Anthems, have some respect (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:56 (three months ago) link

did you find the first one?

This is Dance Anthems, have some respect (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:56 (three months ago) link

the first one is the house where my mother grew up, the second one from the right.

This is Dance Anthems, have some respect (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:57 (three months ago) link

note the broken glass cemented into the top of the wall, something I always remember from childhood visits there, not a good place to do parkour

This is Dance Anthems, have some respect (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 3 June 2024 09:59 (three months ago) link

The bins were what made me stick with Liverpool, and then vibes, there were too many streets which were really similar but not quite. With the second photo, I was on Fenton Grove yesterday but not Fenton Close. Yes it sort of could be anywhere but it was like a twin

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Monday, 3 June 2024 10:05 (three months ago) link

impressive! well done team :-)

StanM, Monday, 3 June 2024 10:17 (three months ago) link

Wasn't planning to do another one, but just came across this and thought it would be interesting.

Old Trafford

Won’t be able to identify by the bins this time.

Quite a mix of people. There's a woman there with a backpack, tracksuit bottoms and bare shoulders, and another wearing tights and short shorts - so I'm thinking we're not in a muslim country.

Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 01:04 (three months ago) link

Picking through piles of rubbish makes one think of Mumbai or something, but somehow the people don't give me an Indian vibe. Apart from the guy in the forefront, all the men seem to be wearing jeans...

Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 01:26 (three months ago) link

I think this is Kathmandu

Going by triangular flags, climate and trash. But I can’t find it in streetview so maybe not. feels Himalayan though.

I was getting more of a feel of South America. The bricks above the blue yellow building above left, and occasional fragments of words

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 03:25 (three months ago) link

The green/white street sign is pretty distinctive!

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 04:27 (three months ago) link

Bogota has street signs that are on two lines like that

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 04:40 (three months ago) link

I get the vibe that the people are more Asian than South American, but I don't know what I'm going on there.

Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 05:00 (three months ago) link

London, post Brexit? (sorry, jokes)

StanM, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 05:18 (three months ago) link

Looks a little like where I'll be next week (DRC, reinforced by the blue-yellow, too many bricks though)

Nabozo, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 05:42 (three months ago) link

very rough guess but there seems to be a sign in Kurdish ("Mezhe").

assert (matttkkkk), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 05:48 (three months ago) link

I thought I had it in the Maria Paz district, but second guessing now. The lighting is darker in the image

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 05:51 (three months ago) link

Its definitely Spanish speaking with the street name being Calle Csomething, and signs in that style appear to be common across Colombia though I noticed them more in Bogota. And the buildings on the left and words match

But on the other hand, there aren't many streets with trash like that or with that many people. Bogota's streetview surprisingly sparsely peopled. Maria Paz had people and trash. The building on the right is a problem. And the lighting isn't right, though I noticed the imagery is copyright 2019 and Bogota's coverage is more recent than that

I did wonder about Buenaventura on the coast, that seems to have trash and maybe port cities are a better bet

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 06:48 (three months ago) link

Having a punt that its Caracas.

Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 07:38 (three months ago) link

I've just realised that this is not the most recently available street view, which is not really fair as the current view is very different

This is Dance Anthems, have some respect (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 08:23 (three months ago) link

This is roughly the same view in 2024

Reminds me of some streets I saw in Sal in Cape Verde.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Wednesday, 5 June 2024 11:47 (three months ago) link

OK, that's pretty dramatically different! I'm struck by the cars, which look like they're from the 1990s or something

Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 11:55 (three months ago) link

Ok not Himalayan. Agree with South America or maybe Haiti?
