The reappearance of whatever the video feature of RYM is. Seems to crop up randomly and block text I'm trying to read. I thought they'd stopped using it cos I remember it being annoying a few years ago. Po9ssibly I just got a stronger ad or pop up blocker that is no longer blocking it.Mobile version seems to skip it.

customers in line at the post office for whom the act of packing and taping their own shipping box is apparently too difficult or stressful. This past week alone, on two separate occasions, I had to stand behind people who approached the counter with a handful of items and an unassembled usps box.

As someone who worked in various mail rooms, this is one that I find personally offensive to behold.

Vinyl records with 2 or more LPs and they pressed the first vinyl with Sides 1 and 4 and the second vinyl with Sides 2 and 3.

I never understood why they did this

aiui, had to do with those old players that would switch to the next record in a stack, so it'd play side 1, then automatically move onto the next record and play side 2. never saw one in action though, tbh.

I had one. It was handy. Not every 2LP set was arranged 1-4, 2-3...I appreciated the ones that were. I didn't think about the friction rubbing my records smooth when they dropped.

I was always convinced the suspended record would drop when the first one was still playing, ruining both the bottom record and the stylus, so I stopped using that feature after a couple plays.

Pretty handy. *shrug*

My step-father owned a Hallmark store in the 80s and would play classical music over the speakers. He used one of those stacked record players so that he only had to flip the records over every hour or so.

Granted, he didn't really need to have the sides play in consecutive order, but it would've still come in handy.

when you're in a room full of people, clearly state someone's name, that person gets ready to start responding, and someone whose name isn't even anything remotely close to that person's name interrupts and asks "WERE YOU TALKING TO ME?"

bought my first eu-mandated captured-bottle-cap today and, well, it's awkward.

is the idea that they remain together? to reduce litter? but haven't they just created a different problem - that they are now harder to recycle - the bottle and the top are typically made of different plastics (PET and HDPE) and shouldn't be recycled together. i always separate mine.

some people are working on it, but, yeah, currently a problem

Yeah I've been quietly annoyed at these, I for one did not know the caps should be recycled together and maybe if they'd just put a message on them or something before doing this? I have arthritic hands and it makes bottles that much harder to open now, also the danger of scraping the cap on my nose when I drink.

Dunno if irrationally angry, but I've just seen an angry social media post about the "thousands of Iraqis who died in the Iraq war" and every time I see this I want to reply with "what the fuck, it was AT LEAST A MILLION PEOPLE, PROBABLY A LOT MORE! There are reliable studies you can even cite!" but it would be a bad thing to post at someone who is on the right side, so I'm posting it here instead.

Something that happened here, when I was trying to italicize one part of an imaginary email address:

System tried to disguise it with the little diamonds (the ✧'s) and then all hell broke loose.

And it's still doing it.
