When I say underground sewers I probably mean simply undeground tunnels. Sewers would be a little unpleasant. On the other hand, you'd get some pretty fresh shit.

Yeah the warehouse scene seems pretty big in Syd from what R's told me, compared to Melb. Here you'll see a bit of it in the noisecore scene. And there's some cathedralesque stormdrain tunnel under.. hawthorn or somewhere? Where ppl have gigs and raves sometimes.

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

The breakcore scene I meant. Brain not working today.

how does one run a club night, is what i wonder. keep thinking an optimo-type scenario would work well down ere - play weird records a bit quieter for first hour or so (let people chat and mingle), have band performance or two, then spin dancier stuff for rest of evening.

Friends of mine are about to start a night at the GB called Harvest thats "soul rock n roll and indie" apparently, looking fwd to that one.

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 03:40 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't mean to dump on yr friends but that doesn't sound like a terribly original slant on the club nite

I'd love to hear that gypsy song in a club.

Re yr prev list, there are equivalent lists for rock clubs, dance clubs, retro rave events, metal, goffic, r'n'b, hip hop, funk, rockabilly etc etc etc.

There is one night where if things are flagging you play Cherry Pie and the floor fills instantly, just as it did last time and the time before that.

So I find out what this club plays and I give about 70% of it to them again, plus say 30% new stuff that's sorta like the stuff they like. This is the way things are going, we DJs have got to move with the times. We research, arrive prepared, play them their fave tunes, and then leave with our $100. IT'S THE IPOD IPHONE GENERATION. They want the hits all in a row.

Tiny scenes are everywhere these days. Did you know there's a 70's rock scene in Sydney populated entirely by people under 25? I blame the mother of that wolf. I'm a scene hopper. I like scenes, but I don't like to be seen in a scene, seen?

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Is that anything like the "back in the day" club here? (which is shite)

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:13 (fourteen years ago) link

seems like all the 60s clubs are full of the under 25ers too

surfin on my face (electricsound), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:14 (fourteen years ago) link

(x-post) Just had a look at their playlist - yep, that's pretty much it.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:16 (fourteen years ago) link

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:22 (fourteen years ago) link

For the rock clubs I call myself '@ndy @rseC@ndy'. The story behind that name is that one of the promoters was talking to the other. She said 'What's Andy's DJ name?' and the other one said 'Ask Andy'. Then the first one goes '@rseC@ndy'? and puts that name on the flyer.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Speaking of 80s synthpop tunes me and R were going to do some covers of some, inna psych/shoegaze stylee, for shits n gigs.

Any suggestions? He wants to do some obscure A-Ha song. Me, I thought something like Visage or Spandau Ballet could be lol.

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:29 (fourteen years ago) link

Fade To Grey was made to shoegaze, as was Mind Of A Toy or even Damned Don't Cry.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:33 (fourteen years ago) link

'head over heels' is 'A MUST!', as they say

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:35 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah it was Damned dont Cry I had in mind. I can totally hear that with swooshy walls o' noise.

Also on my list: Kim Wilde "View from a Bridge" and Duran's "Chauffer", but R said the latter's too obvious and I think he's right.

xpost funny you say that haitch! One we are def doing is "Shout".
