You won't be surprised to know about my involvement in the burgeoning 80s synthpop scene.

felix-ified version. would go ORF i'm thinking

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:22 (fifteen years ago) link

For the rock clubs I call myself '@ndy @rseC@ndy'. The story behind that name is that one of the promoters was talking to the other. She said 'What's Andy's DJ name?' and the other one said 'Ask Andy'. Then the first one goes '@rseC@ndy'? and puts that name on the flyer.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:22 (fifteen years ago) link

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Speaking of 80s synthpop tunes me and R were going to do some covers of some, inna psych/shoegaze stylee, for shits n gigs.

Any suggestions? He wants to do some obscure A-Ha song. Me, I thought something like Visage or Spandau Ballet could be lol.

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Fade To Grey was made to shoegaze, as was Mind Of A Toy or even Damned Don't Cry.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:33 (fifteen years ago) link

'head over heels' is 'A MUST!', as they say

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah it was Damned dont Cry I had in mind. I can totally hear that with swooshy walls o' noise.

Also on my list: Kim Wilde "View from a Bridge" and Duran's "Chauffer", but R said the latter's too obvious and I think he's right.

xpost funny you say that haitch! One we are def doing is "Shout".

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:36 (fifteen years ago) link

If our karaoke versh was anything to go by, we're ON A WINNAR.

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:36 (fifteen years ago) link

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:39 (fifteen years ago) link

How about Tubeway Army /Gary Numan - there's 'Every Day I Die', 'Tracks', 'Me I Disconnect From You' - all potential shoegazer material.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmmmm, Gazza I didnt think of - tops! Maybe an oldschool Simple Minds song could work too. "I Travel", or "Someone Somewhere in Summertime".

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:44 (fifteen years ago) link

nu gold dream would be quite shimmery

footstomping smirker (haitch), Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Speaking of Ultravox, this one is a corker if you're looking for something to play to bored fashion chicks at electro clubs - The Thin Wall:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYGx00779f8

Weird how John Foxx leaves then Ultravox start sounding more like John Foxx than he does.

moley, Thursday, 10 September 2009 04:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I love that song!

surfin on my face (electricsound), Friday, 11 September 2009 03:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i like that song about the very hung fellow though

surfin on my face (electricsound), Friday, 11 September 2009 03:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i have survived thus far without actually buying any of their records, so i am nowhere near hardcore

was a good show tho

footstomping smirker (haitch), Friday, 11 September 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago) link

I loved em when they first appeared in 87 or whenever it was Come on Pilgrim came out. I remember thinkning they were ripping of the Femmes. If they had toured in the early 90s I would have sold my left tit to see them, but now... eh.

Dearth Disco (Trayce), Friday, 11 September 2009 03:48 (fifteen years ago) link

were they really that titillating

Don't Be A Ned Raggett (King Boy Pato), Friday, 11 September 2009 03:56 (fifteen years ago) link
