Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I am neither punk nor rock.

No, punk rock hasn't been invented yet.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 14 April 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Mohawks are a state of mind.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 14 April 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have a mohawk but I have a punk soul. Do I get some sort of prize?

By the way, slutsky, I'd always assumed you were female (please excuse me if you really are female and I mistook you for male on the pix page and you didn't intend to look so masculine).

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in Sep Ultra

jel -- (jel), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a mowhawk in '84 I think. I'm way more punk rock now, though.

Sean (Sean), Monday, 14 April 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I own a Marillion album, so that's me disqualified then.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I was sort of a punk back in 76-77. Never did anything with my hair, but I wore some of the clothes and went to loads of the gigs. I was 17 when punk started. I guess this is as remote to some of you as rock 'n' roll is to me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 14 April 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way, slutsky, I'd always assumed you were female

Let me clear it up right now then, I'm a dude. And my handle here is actually my last name.

the slutsky away from his home & password, Monday, 14 April 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw someone with a mohawk serving in IKEA on Sunday. Haha, pretty fukin' PUNK, eh? (he was dead helpful actually) Alex, which marillion album 'ave yer got? I bought a bunch cheap on cd in a used rekkid store. Um, they haven't got fish singing on them....some of them sound a bit like Talk Talk, strangely enough.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Script for a Jester's Tear.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to have that one, and "fugazi" as well, years ago. Obv, I'm pretty pro-prog, but when I sometimes feel the urge to buy them again, I get all nervous & a little embarrased! How does it hold up? I sort-of remember it being a little thin-sounding.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was a freshman in high school, a bunch of people referred to me and my small gaggle of friends as "happy punks". I played a show once where it said over the door on the way in "PUNK ROCK SHOW". So, um, yeah?

[inner monologue: "that's not a very punk answer dumbass"]

FUCKIN RIGHT PUNKINFUCKINAY MATE!!!!

[inner monologue: "a little better"]

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I am! Grrr! This is my happening and it freaks me out!

http://southsidecallbox.com/images/teen.jpg

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I never owned Fugazi. I think I picked up Script... after seeing them open disastrously for Rush (and get virtually booed offstage). There is something decidedly masturbatory about their schtick (although I have no idea what they sound like without Fish), but they had sort've a burly presence as well. I quite like the sprawling-if-needlessly-histrionic title track and "He Knows You Know." I think I toyed with picking up whichever album had "Incommunicado" on it (circa `87 or so), but never did. Never thought much of "Kayleigh" (their "big single"), though.

Getting back to this thread question, however, most of the kids in my high school who went out and bought the right hair-spray and gear knew precious fuckin' little about the actual music and cared more about the appearance, begging the question: "what makes a Punk Rocker?" If it was strictly tonsorial/sartorial, then no I definetely wasn't. If it meant identifying with the actual music, then sure I was. But, I was also fond of stoopid metal and the odd prog record, so whatever.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Jody makes me want to post that picture of me from when I was 15. FEAR MY FISHNETS AND ANGRY EXPRESSION.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ya mean this one?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

(On the Marillion tangent -- my ex is a huuuge fanatical fan of them, particularly the post-Fish band. The new singer's Steve Hogarth, who sounds kind of like a plaintive Robbie Williams with a higher-pitched voice, and the band's become much more arty and emotive and concept-album-ish, with very little in common with the Fish era, catering heavily to their viciously loyal online fanclub. That said, though, even though I've been horrendously overexposed to the band, I think Script.. holds up pretty well.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i read an article in the grauniad the other week abt the mar1llion fan club doing an atp-style event at butlins with marillion playing like three times over the weekend but, and this was the wierd bit, there were NORMAL BUTLINS PUNTERS there too...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I read that as well. It was a but of a larf, I suppose, but the only such event I ever went to (a Hawkwind fan convention) was not a whole lot ov phun so I wouldn't fancy it much myself.
it just occurred to me, didn't one of marillion's earl;y 12"s have a painting of a guy made up like JAZ himself on it (really!!) I do remember that a lot of the early '80's prog revivalists - 12th night, pallas etc etc, before they got rekkid deals & became mulletheadz, went for the whole anarcho-grebo-combat gear look, and were virtually indistinguishable from yer average sub-crass anarcho punk band, apart fromthe gabriel-alike singer (drone drone i saw dagaband at sunderland old twenty-nine, here & now gigging w/atv etc etc etc all fall asleep)

I have a couple of pairs of Doc Marten's.
And an old Black Flag T-shirt.
And can be quite surly, spitting invectives in a faux English accent.
And right beside my Carpenters records, I have a couple of Clash long players.
I am punk as fuck.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool your boots, Ally, that's not a picture of Harley Quinn, it's a Marillion 12".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not talking about that one, you know. I'm talking about this one. Though this didn't need explaining, you just wanted me to post the picture again. You'll be sorry when I freak out and post the picture of me being scary and faux-punk. I was really hardcore, I looked like this:

Minutes later, at six o'clock, all the Japanese businessmen began their daily trek to their offices and I let em all have it! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! It was fucking hilarious seeing them all run for cover, screaming in terror like we were dropping another fucking Fat Man or Little Boy on their wannabe Samurai asses! Those supposed Ninja never saw that one coming! Or that one, or that one, or that one, or that one either. I spent sixteen hours in a dirty interrogation room, like you see in the movies, after a couple hour chase, but it was fucking worth it! Now that's punk, you wannabe's, and don't think I made that one up, it's the truth, and I've got better stories to fill your bored minds with, but I'll save them for later. See you on the streets! Smash. Over. Out.

I miss Smash...

latebloomer: Deutsch Bag (latebloomer), Sunday, 18 December 2005 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I was punk in attitude though not in style when I was a teen: I was in a local anarchist group, I went to all the animal rights demonstrations, a lot of my friends were punks, I hung with them at the railway station and in parks drinking moonshine, etc. I was even involved in arranging the first outdoors anarchist music festival in Finland. But besides that I only ever went to two punk gigs myself; I wore colourful clothes and listened to techno, so I guess I wasn't a true punk rocker.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 18 December 2005 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

2 Charged In Restaurant Break-in
Posted Date: 4/30/2008 5:30 AM

"A man and a woman were arrested early Wednesday after deputies say they broke into an East Naples restaurant.

Christopher Dean Chauncey, 23, and Margie Edwards, 19, both of 448 Castle Drive, North Naples, were each charged with burglary of a business and petty theft.

Reports say deputies on patrol noticed items being thrown over a fence toward a parked car in back of Foxboro Sports Tavern, 4200 Thomasson Lane, around 1:45 a.m.

Deputies say Chauncey was throwing the items. Chauncey told deputies that he was at the restaurant to get drinks and cups and that he had permission to be there from a friend who works at the business, reports said.

Chauncey also told deputies that Edwards, his girlfriend, was with him, reports said.
Deputies called for Edwards, who was hiding in nearby bushes.

Both Chauncey and Edwards were wearing black clothing, reports said. Chauncey was wearing a dark blue bandanna around his face. Edwards had a black hat with cut outs for the eyes in one of her pockets, reports said.

A search of the car turned up a case of soda, a gas can, cleaning supplies and tools that deputies say had been stolen from the restaurant."
