EWS/AH have a pretty specific viewpoint about men paying dearly for trying to get laid in the city

Nhex, Thursday, 7 August 2014 17:54 (ten years ago)

Hah I was going to talk about psychic labyrinths and the frustration of desire but that's a pretty good summation too

I feel like Miracle Mile should qualify for this since most of the important stuff takes place in one late night/early morning, and it gives me another excuse to mention it. So that one.

Not sure Collateral fits what I'm looking for - think it's too literal

There's a sense of unreleased tension, or perhaps release into bathos, that I think these movies also share

Will look into Into the Night & others mentioned, ty

Claire Denis's Friday Night, maybe, although unlike AH/EWS, the protagonist isn't punished for her desires.

Into The Night a more normal '80s-date-night-adventure flick, you don't get the existential dread along with it

Dressed to Kill?

cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 August 2014 22:59 (ten years ago)

Blue Velvet, maybe, although the opening sequence is a small masterpiece of daylight horror?

After Hours is like my favourite movie ever (and Eyes Wide Shut is pretty great too)

3 others in the same vein
*Daytime Drinking (Korean awesomeness)
*Edmond
*Three Businessmen
