Can anyone recommend some 50's and 60's-style children's book illustrators?

I'm working on an animation project and I'm researching some illustrators in the style of Mary Blair, Eric Carle and Maurice Sendak. If anyone can think of others worth checking out, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

idk if he's *exactly* in that style, but Ludwig Bemelmans' Madeline series is beautifully illustrated imo

My favorite, though she was just getting started in the 60s: Trina Schart Hyman

The thing is don't Blair, Carle, and Sendak have WILDLY different styles??

Leo and Diane Dillon, btw. Husband and wife team, absolutely phenomenal.

And Blair Lent, totally classic line drawings, unmistakable style.

Yeah, totally different styles but they share some similar qualities, I think. Anyway, I haven't really settled in one direction, so I want to explore as much as I can within these parameters.

I recommend the children's section at a nice, neglected small-town library where no one has changed the books in a while.

Margaret Bloy Graham, who did the Harry The Dirty Dog books, among others, is one of my favorites.

one month passes...

Found the perfect fit - S.britt, super talented dude who's done children's books for Chronicle and a ton of other stuff. Here's what we came up with:
