Globally, we found that Gen Z (b. 1994-2010) appears to be more entrepreneurial, loyal, open-minded and less motivated by money than Gen Y. These attributes are important because if you want to hire, engage or sell to Gen Z, you need to emphasize customization, incentives for loyalty and training and development over money.

if there's anything i love in this world, it's nonsense business-ese generalizations of age cohorts by arbitrarily defined generational stratification. what we need in the world today is more tools for judging people outright.

I think training & development is supposed to be a separate option, should have used an oxford comma

you need to emphasize customization, incentives for loyalty, and training and development over money.

This study also confirms that each generation has a negative view of the generations that follow. In a study last year, we found that Gen X and boomers view Gen Ys as being entitled, narcissistic, and not focused, while Gen Ys view older generations as being wise and experienced.

gee, wow.

We found that Gen Zs have a positive view of Gen Ys, but 40 per cent of Gen Ys view Gen Z as lazy.

when they do these studies, is there an option for "i would never dream of generalizing across such a vast range of people"?

also, gen y should give gen z a break. some of them are four years old.

Born between 1994 and 2010, and numbering 20 million in the United States and seven million in Canada, Gen Z is poised to come into the work force in full force in the next year.

How is that possible? The USA has ten times Canada's population.

Gen A would be too retrograde. After gen Z should come gens XX, YY and ZZ. Or else the marketers could come up with a new, but meaningless symbol, like Prince did.

Aimless, Saturday, 13 September 2014 18:49 (ten years ago)

w/ the caveat that all generational generalizations are suspect, what happened to sociological generations being 20 years? Gen Y is already 1980-2000, so how can Gen Z be 1994-2010?

So I looked it up and the US Gen Z population is like 63 million. Thus proving for once and for all that throwaway G&M content can occasionally have fact-checking errors.

jmm, Saturday, 13 September 2014 19:30 (ten years ago)

I'm quite sure that the reason young people have been job-hopping in today's economy has been their own lack of loyalty. No reason to stress out anymore, employers!

I kind of like Statistics Canada's classifications of generations in a Stairway to Hell sort of way:

(Perhaps they are different because they are done by statisticians and based on actual demographic data? Who knows?)

i hate when people call it Gen Y, like we're just an afterthought to the generation that came before us.

anyway i think we should call this newest crop Post-Millennials.

Is it just me or does every single one of these generational distinctions suffer the fatal flaw of comparing people who are currently 20 to people who are currently 30 or 40.

Someone should do a longitudinal study. Employers need this information.

tavi is an honorary millenial because her initial blog started gaining recognition in 2009, the same year merriweather post pavilion was releasead.

is that more or less dignified than being an honorary aryan

Contrappunto dialettico alla mente (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 02:41 (ten years ago)

in 2014 it's the better to be an honorary millenial than an old person who betrayed the interests of their own ethnic group to collaborate with the nazis and earned special recognition for this. imo.
