From my 1997 diary, 31 August:

3:45am: Have been kept up by an extended news flash. Princess Diana has been involved in a car crash in Paris. Her lover Dodi Al-Fayed is dead. Diana's injuries were a mystery until recently. I was hoping for her death or at least Christopher Reeve-style wounding, for no good reason I might add. To have made it worth my staying up perhaps. But they have just announced she has escaped with only concussion, a broken arm and cuts to the thigh. Oh well, good for her.

So I went to bed and woke up at midday to see the big news in the News of the World all over the place.

I remember reading a Motley Crue interview from 88 or 89 where they teased the title of their upcoming album as Sex, Sex, and Rock n Roll .
