The Insider, followed by The Sixth Sense.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 14 October 2014 13:38 (ten years ago)

With very little doubt, the worst lineup of my years watching these things.

I voted for The Sixth Sense. Even if Shyamalan has proven time and time again that he is a complete hack, this movie retains its effectiveness even today. Just got lucky I guess

this is rough

Noxious isn't strong enough a word for Beauty.

Eric H., Tuesday, 14 October 2014 15:27 (ten years ago)

i might actually hate cider house more though

I love that two of these are basically oversized, unusually sniffly twilight zone episodes

Never bothered with The Cider House Rules or The Green Mile cuz, um, I saw the trailers.

The Sixth Sense.

In a year that was actually pretty damn good for movies!

'the insider' by a mile imo. though the best parts of the film are the ones that don't involve russell crowe at the center of the scene. he's really good imo but everything else is better. i just love that the best scene in the film involves andy travis from wkrp, 'ramrod' from vice squad, and the comic relief from 'macgyver' staring each other down in an incredible courtroom scene while oscar winner russell crowe meekly hangs out off to the side.

'the sixth sense' isn't so bad, i mean it seems worse in retrospect after shyamalan's worst tendencies (some of which appear here) took over in subsequent films.

'the green mile' is kinda watchable but so horrible too w/r/t race, morality, justice, etc. everyone is either a golden beacon of decency or the most reprehensible sweaty evildoer.

'american beauty' is so slick and lame, all the emotions and sentiments expressed feel so secondhand idk. the austin powers 2 opening credits phantom blowjob scene is just about the worst thing in an oscar winning film i can think of offhand.

didn't waste my time on 'the cider house rules', i think i was going to see it and then ducked into another movie at the last second.
