Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 12 October 2002 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

This was supposed to start a discussion for boys and girls, not just be me publicly leering. Ahem.

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 12 October 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey?

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 12 October 2002 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

My mother sent me a big package of socks and things as some kind of a piece offering. At the very bottom was a pair of fishnets. Erm, crikey, what's that about, eh? Should I wear them, then?

kate, Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Your mother clearly wants you to, Kate.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

If my mother wants to get me married off and get grandkids, this is NOT the way to accomplish it.

kate, Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

She may just think you aren't getting enough sex (no implication intended: I may know even less about your love life than your mother) - fishnets more suggest that than marriage, to the tiny extent that hosiery can mean anything at all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

EXACTLY what I meant. If my mother had the slightest clue, she'd send me a chastity belt, not fishnets... ;-)

kate, Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Might she have meant it as an insult?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I just emailed her and asked. She replied "just for fun".

Hrmmmmm...

kate, Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I should probably use one of Ned's icons, as it might be sounding as if I am implying that Kate is a slut or something, and no such thought is in my mind.

It might be what your mother is implying, of course...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

my mom bought my sister these tarty red stockings one year for xmas. it was a bit odd. i think it was all meant as kind of a joke until everyone realized she might actually wear these things with her boyfriend, etc etc.

ewww, shudder.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll let you know if my mother ever gives me any fishnet tights.I'll even post a photo. (I feel this is a safe gamble.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Patterned tights are the best. I will invariably always notice someone wearing them. A handy tip (how handy!) if you were ever interested in getting the attention of me.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 12 October 2002 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

jim, i'm wearing my stripey tights right now, big boy.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 12 October 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

oy vey

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 12 October 2002 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I own this thread. I am Queen of stupid hoisery.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

dum de dum i always wanted stripey tights to wear under my holey jeans in the winter, but fuckety fuck fuck, i got rid of them before i found any. so now there's no point. unless i start falling over a lot. which i don't plan on doing. but that doesn't normally stop me.

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

HUH i wasn't going to buy any stupid patterened tights this year because FACE IT they are unflattering on the more ahem, treetrunk-legged of those among us eg. ME. but DAMN YOU AND YOU PINK FISHNETS AND BLUE AND BLACK STRIPEY TIGHTS TOP SHOP grrr. what the hell, i'm going to buy the maroon lace ones now as well, mmmm!

katie (katie), Monday, 14 October 2002 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

katie, you always look fab! Go and buy SEXXXY patterned tights and give an old pervert something to smile about :)

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

hey! I'm not that old.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

i am still on the lookout for stripey tights, STILL (it's been two years!)

Maria (Maria), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Naturally, I agree with Mark C

the pinefox, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I wore patterened tights to last night's FAP. If the lighting had been good, I would have taken a picture.

I can't find any fun inexpensive tights. Urban Outfitters has cute ones but $18??? No.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

nancy wanted to buy patterned tights yesterday but i felt they were too expensive.

i'm regretting it now.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

six months pass...
I found nice red plaid ones at the Sock Man the other day, but red plaid won't be a go till next fall I fear. I hope they'll still be there.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 27 April 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

spectralyne gave me the coolest lacey crimson and purple ones a couple of months ago. WITH LUREX. goddam.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 27 April 2003 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't worn tights in 25 years. Suggestions?

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 27 April 2003 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is the Sock Man?

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

St. Mark's between 3rd and 2nd, about half way down, on the north side of the street. They have a display with tons of stuff outside, but the real gold is inside.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 27 April 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

That's always how it is. I need all sorts of new things, my wardrobe has gone all crap now that I refuse to do the laundry.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

In a fit of nostalgia I almost bought a hot pink and black stripey pair, but at the last minute decided it would just be lame.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 27 April 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

I love breaking out my tights this time of year.

I do not love how I don't seem to find the tears in them until I get to work. Then they only get bigger.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

i have pulled out just some of my winter/fall stuff so far and don't know where some of my tights are. maybe they were wrecked/holey and i threw them out? maybe i need to go tights shopping!
i am partial to grey tights these days

rrrobyn, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

I spent all last fall & winter investing in nice stockings that don't go all the way up, and now I have to build a second wardrobe of tights to bike in. Beh.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

oh you should totally just get bike shorts/tights long enough to go under skirt and cover tops of stockings!

rrrobyn, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

Agreed.

I need new charcoal gray tights. Those were my faves last year and I wore the toesies out of them.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

just wear bloomers when you bike. who knows? you could start a trend.

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

It's supposed to be 80 degrees today! I'm bare-legged in the latter half of October. It's just wrong.

Anyway, I'm saving up $$$ to buy these boots:

http://www.duoboots.com/images/2007/boots/2_casual_naples_1.jpg

Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, where are those from and why didn't you post that on the BOOTS thread I revived?? ;-D

I would have gone bare-legged today, but have already gotten addicted to my tights.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

Sarah - I went int PAY HALF on Tuesday and they had grey and brown sweater tights for $4 each. I was going to buy some but I didn't feel like waiting in line.

Has anybody else purchased EG Smith tights? I bought three pairs last season for buck$ and they all got holes in the crotch within the first couple wearings. WTF!

OH - I thought this was a tights AND boots thread. I'll go post the deets in the other thread.

Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

i like tights, i have some dark purple ones that i wear over black ones, which i like.

jenny, those boots are pretty cool, the're like a weird combination of cowboy boots at the top and something else at the bottom. i like them!

xp- oops, i'll repost my boots comments on another thread

colette, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

I can't get into the patterned tights thing this winter. It's been black opaques every day since it started to get cold.

Madchen, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

Today I'm wearing black opaques.

Colette - do you mean to say you wear two pair of tights at once sometimes??

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

I have nothing to contribute. I just like hanging around these parts. Cor.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

How does everyone store their tights?
I currently keep all mine in a big see-through zip-up container that a comforter came in.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

I put them in the little baggies that they came in, to keep them together and unsnagged, and then the baggies get chucked into a soft-sided storage cube.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i keep mine in a bag that hangs on the inside of my closet door* there's gotta be a better way

* ok mostly in theory. practice: back of chair

rrrobyn, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

I fold them in half, waist-band to toes, and then tie them in a knot, then keep them in an open bin-thing so the cats can sleep in them and shed all over them.

Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

i need a walk-in closet where i can see everything and all the drawers are also transparent

rrrobyn, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Transparent drawers?

practice: back of chair
Aw, yes. Very 1930's.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

except that it's a blue ikea folding chair
classy!
xpost

british joek i will never get

rrrobyn, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

Are patterned tights fashionable? Because I'm seeing them all over the place. What I really mean is were they big in 2002 and they still are, or was I just asleep for the last 5 years? Or have I just happened to see the 8 or 9 people in the city wearing them? Or what?

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

What I really mean is if I buy some for Mrs T will she like them?

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

I fold mine in half once one way and twice the other, then pile them neatly in my underwear drawer. I have three piles: sheer, opaque and patterned.

Madchen, Thursday, 18 October 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

Cor.

blueski, Thursday, 18 October 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

Fishnets are a pain to fold, though, because they are about 3 inches long when not worn. (x-p)

Madchen, Thursday, 18 October 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I had room in a drawer for that.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

Then again, my kitties like to sleep in my drawers.

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

as i was leaving this morning my cat batted my leg with a single claw out, just to ruin my tights. it is her trick for getting me to stay in the apartment longer.

Just got offed, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

Women who don't wear pants?

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

(or skirts?)

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

i'm getting those! i might get the cobalt/yellow/fuschia/light green style, though.

lauren, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

It's funny. Without the hat I think she'd look silly.

Alba, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

I think that blouse thingy extends into an ultra-mini skirt. It could be a touch longer and still be gorgeous. Helps that she can pull it off (the look, not the skirt). And yeah, the hat is fairly crucial.

Just got offed, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

ok that is NOT a skirt
i like the hat, it is kind of jodorowsky-esque

bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

That is a person not wearing any pants. They exist in real life, if you are an underwear model with 5' of leg, but they tend to do their pants-not-wearing INdoors. That's probably why you haven't seen them.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

dudes in not knowing the difference between shirts and dresses shocker! her shoes also look like they'd be very difficult to "walk" in. but, yknow, she don't have to walk anywhere either.

bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

i mean, come on. there are lots of long tshirty dress things that are ambiguous but that ends ABOVE HER BUTT. it is not even a question.

bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

I want those tights so bad.

Jenny, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

burlap sack is not a good look.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

yes, i frequently wear more than one pair of tights...these purple ones look a bit vivid if i wear them alone but rich over black. plus it keeps my legs warmer. i also wear black on black to get a superblack effect since i can never find tights that are quite as opaque as i want.

colette, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

Interesting...

KitCat, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

Went through my tights container today and realized I have fucxking ELEVEN PAIRS of solid black tights (8 opaque, 3 not). What the hell, me. At least my impulse buy is something cheap and practical.

Pretty much only wear fishnets/lacy patterned tights over black tights. Is subtle + warmm.

Them're AWESOME boots, Jenny.

Abbott, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

Whenever I'm stuck for a present for my lady, Wolford's is always a winner:

http://www.wolfordmelbourne.com/home.php

moley, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

i love patterned tights but can't wear them because they make my legs look even shorter than they already are :(

Rubyredd, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

dudes Loo-ee Jag-ger in not knowing the difference between shirts and dresses shocker!

nabisco, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

aw c'mon now, it was a tight call, lay off the ad hominems for a night, cantcha?

Just got offed, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

That's not primarily an attack on you -- mostly just noting the important difference between "dude" and "dudes."

nabisco, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

Fair enough! The pleated bit about 2/3 of the way down the blouse is what threw me. Only two or three more inches of fabric and it would be a genuine miniskirt-shirt thingy, mind.

Just got offed, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

i have a friend who's maybe 5' tall who wears patterned tights all the time and it doesn't make her legs look short. it might be because she wears intimidatingly high heels though.

JuliaA, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

i have pretty shapeless legs, though. in combination with the pre-existing shortness, my legs just look terrible in patterned tights. and i have fat knees.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 18 October 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

I am sorely missing the days when I wore stripey tights. I might revisit that phase soon, before I get too old. I do Colette's two pairs of tights thing too, for warmth and effect. My tights all live crumpled up in a drawer because life is too short for folding things. I tend to buy them mega-cheap in Primark, but have some fancy Markies ones for special occasions (fishnets also better quality plain ones)

ailsa, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

Striped tights are neat but the one time I wore them I felt like I should be at a Neil Gaiman fan conference. May have to wear them if I do indeed dress as the Hamburgler this Halloween!

Abbott, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:38 (eighteen years ago)

I have stripey tights on today! Black and dark burgundy ones.

Trayce, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

(More) photos!

mei, Friday, 19 October 2007 08:19 (eighteen years ago)

Moley, those are some fancy tights you linked!

I'm making it my weekend project to organize my tights and come up with a better storage method. I have enough tights that this is really a PROJECT.

KitCat, Friday, 19 October 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

Wearing two pairs of tights would be my worst nightmare. I find tights so constricting that I almost don't want to even wear one pair. Also, I can't believe that people have special storage systems for tights besides sock drawer.

Virginia Plain, Saturday, 20 October 2007 02:53 (eighteen years ago)

Has anyone tried Spanx double sided tights?

KitCat, Monday, 22 October 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

I don't have any drawers, Mary! Socks go in one storage cube, stockings in another, bras in a third, pants in a fourth. All go on shelves.

Laurel, Monday, 22 October 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)
