Frobisher, Friday, 12 December 2014 22:51 (ten years ago)

Frobisher, is your display name inspired by Frobisher the penguin from Dr Who?

soref, Friday, 12 December 2014 22:51 (ten years ago)

I only watch television for the nature documentaries.

just like Nietzsche but with jokes (snoball), Friday, 12 December 2014 22:52 (ten years ago)

btw those who haven't seen the advert need to watch it before voting. its on youtube you know.

And yes, my sn is directly related to the Dr. Who penguin/alien-shapeshifter.

Frobisher, Friday, 12 December 2014 22:53 (ten years ago)

lol snoball just likes watching the tigers go at it.

Frobisher, Friday, 12 December 2014 22:54 (ten years ago)

I especially love the Big Finish audios that feature Frobisher, as they make him out to be a 40's Noir gumshoe (albeit completely inept).

Frobisher, Friday, 12 December 2014 22:56 (ten years ago)

yes, I have a soul, so I didn't cry during or after this shitty, stupid advert

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 12 December 2014 23:37 (ten years ago)

Surely should be an option for 'never seen it, thank fuck'?

Root It Oot (Tom D.), Friday, 12 December 2014 23:39 (ten years ago)

"Gits full of bile" - now that is a lyric or sounds like a lyric.

Root It Oot (Tom D.), Friday, 12 December 2014 23:51 (ten years ago)

hunangarage, Friday, 12 December 2014 23:56 (ten years ago)

Moonlight and love songs never out of date
Gits full of bile, jealousy and hate
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny

Root It Oot (Tom D.), Saturday, 13 December 2014 00:06 (ten years ago)

You're as much as telling me that if I look this up on youtube, I will either cry or else find out I am soulless or Lucifer incarnate. I already cried once today so I need better inducements.

oh no! must be the season of the rich (Aimless), Saturday, 13 December 2014 00:15 (ten years ago)

it's pretty clever and features a trained penguin doing things... so if you like penguins its pretty great.

Frobisher, Saturday, 13 December 2014 00:24 (ten years ago)

What if you think penguins are meh and are also aware of advertisements gimmicky bullshit?

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Saturday, 13 December 2014 00:55 (ten years ago)

look, I know ILX is full of Luciferians who sold their souls long ago, so just vote accordingly, Ste.

Frobisher, Saturday, 13 December 2014 01:06 (ten years ago)

What if you like penguins but find the whole fetishisation of saccharine John Lewis Christmas adverts fucking horrendous and pretty much a good reason to destroy the world?

emil.y, Saturday, 13 December 2014 01:12 (ten years ago)

Then maybe I should have added that as a category emil.y....
Blame the creator, myself, for not giving you enough choices.

Also, I agree that consumerist ploys to puil your heartstrings are evil, I just wanted to find out how many people it worked on, and also how many people got through the ad without teary eyes and therefore likely have no souls.

that fuckin' Lilly Allen Bear and Rabbit ad from last year got to me too, but it didn't result in my purchasing choices.

Frobisher, Saturday, 13 December 2014 01:16 (ten years ago)

result in altering my purchasing choices I mean.

Frobisher, Saturday, 13 December 2014 02:32 (ten years ago)

I saw this for the first time this morning! the penguins are cute and it helps make up for the fact that this year's Famous Grouse ad does not feature the famous grouse but just some ppl with beards taking selfies, so I'm broadly in favour of #MontyThePenguin, haven't cried yet, though

soref, Sunday, 14 December 2014 08:22 (ten years ago)

LOL, omg I did not know they had fake twitter accounts, smdh. Also, obv. I am not some representative of John Lewis, I'm just a sucker for their Xmas adverts, this one especially.

Frobisher, Sunday, 14 December 2014 20:38 (ten years ago)

I have probably cried at some point after having seen this advert about something unrelated

I am using your worlds, Sunday, 14 December 2014 20:48 (ten years ago)

four years pass...

Another soft toy to flog this year then.

I actually quite like Bastille but can't help thinking the advert would be massively improved if they had used the original REO Speedwagon tune instead.

groovypanda, Thursday, 14 November 2019 08:56 (five years ago)

oh, and judging from Twitter, people are crying again

groovypanda, Thursday, 14 November 2019 08:57 (five years ago)

imagine crying at a john lewis ad, then imagine wanting to tell everyone on twitter rather than keep this horrible secret private.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 14 November 2019 09:06 (five years ago)

I have no memory of the original advert

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 14 November 2019 09:27 (five years ago)

Yeah, that’s absolute muck

gyac, Thursday, 14 November 2019 12:00 (five years ago)

Fellow co-worker posted about this on Slack at 830am this morning, in full capitals with exclamation points and multiple varities of heart emoji. As ever, I need a new job

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 14 November 2019 12:20 (five years ago)
