what do you do

anthony easton (anthony), Sunday, 13 October 2002 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Talk to you on AIM, as you know. Shopping. ILX, obviously. Listen to music, catch up on TV shows I've recorded (like Channel 5's extraordinary run of US shows last night - Charmed, Dark Angel, CSI, Law & Order, The Badge!). Feel miserable because I have a rotten cold.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 13 October 2002 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Thinkn about going shopping. Realise it's already nearly 4 o'clock (when they close) and so don't bother. Think about tidying up. Don't. Think about doing homework. Don't. Watch whatever film's on Channel 4 usually.

Graham (graham), Sunday, 13 October 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 13 October 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

still up @ 11am on the wrong side of Rotorua, purchased an icecream & stumbled along the lakefront. lay down on one of the rocky quasi-islands by the point & would have fallen asleep if not for the squelching nature of the water in the microfjörds & the seagulls. on emerging by some new carpark, some posthighschool Maori girls talking rilly loudly to each other emerged from a toilet & yelled at me if I'd seen a green car. as i'd just emerged from a fairly long bushtrack (& hadn't slept for a while) I looked at them blankly, & then they asked for directions (in general). then they saw the car they were after, thanked me energetically (??) and I wandered off towards Sulphur Point. A few minutes later they drove past, hanging out the windows, smiling & shouting "Don't get too high!". Rotorua, yr inhabitants' universal assumption that I'm always stoned never loses it's sinister charm. Meandered past the sewage treatment plant, the petrol stations & the timber supplies - only took an hour & a half to reach home. Stumbled over the unfed cat & crashed on the sofa until dusk, when the cat woke me up. Bleared about & watched cartoons. Samurai Jack is still the greatest aesthetic achievement of the 21st century. Wasn't much food in the house, I'd started to have really bad stomach cramps & I couldn't stomach alcohol. The chicken kebabs I'd gotten out the previous afternoon had been sitting in the sun for a salmonoellalicious amount of time, so I burned them to a near-useless protein ember, just to be safe. Wandered over Neil Hunt park to find some softdrink at 11am - there was a 24hr service station across the highway. Vanilla Coke. Now even my small change is exhausted. Sat drinking it in the empty carwash listening to their radio booming - five minutes of advertisements, then "Without Me". Around 3am decided to listen to all my parent's compilations on NZ pop & rock, but that's Monday's story. This is Ess Kay, signinzzzzzzzz

Ess Kay (esskay), Sunday, 13 October 2002 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to order expensive books :(

DG (D_To_The_G), Sunday, 13 October 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i skipped church because my friend's family has a ranch in rural east Texas, and we went out there... but a friend of their's owns a hip hop club, which is like the only one in a 100 mile radius, and it draws in crowds of around 500 every Friday and Saturday night from surrounding towns even I've never heard of. Everyone parks in a huge field with cattle roaming around.

They don't have an actual liquor license or business license, so they can stay open ALL NIGHT (as long as there's no trouble, say the cops).

It's just a big converted warehouse. Good sound system and lights. Fog machine. And a small latticed-off VIP area. haha. On the wall are big glittery stars made from cardboard and life size sketches of hip hop stars.

They played Nelly and Missy and funk and soul, but my favorite track of the night turned out to be a Lil Bow Wow track.

So i got home late. Today I am hanging out with mom and then some work tonight.

Aaron A., Sunday, 13 October 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Sunday = one thing only. LOLLIES REHEARSAL!!! Abstaining from drinking last night worked wonders. We rocked like a truckload of fucking pigs. We ripped off a New Order song today. And wrote a new song called Use Your Disillusion. What fun!

kate, Sunday, 13 October 2002 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

feed baby, feed cats, feed calves, feed chooks, feed dogs, feed baby, feed visitors, feed baby, feed calves, feed cats, feed chooks, feed dogs, feed baby, eat, feed baby, sleep................

donna (donna), Sunday, 13 October 2002 18:57 (twenty-three years ago)

My ideal Sunday: sleep in, consume coffee and croissant, read Sunday NYTimes (magazine then arts then front page then week in review then style and travel), eat sandwichm continue to relax. Depending on the season, my ideal Sunday would involve either sitting outside and relaxing, or, in the colder months, curling up in bed or on couch to watch a movie, preferably something like Dr. Zhivago (epic, well-made, enabling escape and coziness at the same time).

Most of my Sundays here at home involve just the sleeping in, sandwich and NYTimes.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 13 October 2002 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Last time I watched Dr. Zhivago on a sunday afternoon, I fell right asleep.

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 13 October 2002 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i slept lots. it was raining.

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Sunday, 13 October 2002 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope Starry Sarah saw the programme about meerkats on BBC2 at about 6:30. Unless she didn't want to. They were quite cute, you know. There might be another installment next week. Yes, I had nothing better to do today than sit in front of BBC2 Wildlife Zone and stare at whatever they had on.

I have to order expensive books :(

Ah, on a course? What, where, how's it going? (My parents keep nagging me to sign up for a course, any course, but I'm hoping they'll give up on the idea.)

Rebecca (reb), Sunday, 13 October 2002 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I read the paper, eat bacon & eggs, have coffee in Acland St, copy vinyl and watch TV.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 13 October 2002 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

My typical Sunday:
Sleep late.
Cook eggs for lunch.
Go to cafe and work.
Go to grocery store.
Clean.
Cook dinner.
Watch HBO.

I never, ever go out on Sunday nights. It's a personal rule.

Wow--looking this over, I realize I seem to have discovered productivity over the past year. Unbelievable--I never thought it'd happen.

nory (nory), Sunday, 13 October 2002 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

i walked another 2 or 3 miles from town to campus (uphill...arrgh.) and am now killing time until nancy is done her work and we can go home and watch futurama.

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 13 October 2002 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Paint my hands and face with wart-cream, then lie down and wait. Those buggers have got to go away sometime....

free melee, Sunday, 13 October 2002 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Yesterday I worked, read 65 pages of Heavier than Heaven (Kurt Cobain bio), read some more Cassavetes, watched Monthy Python (I FART IN YER GENERAL DIRECTION!), made bacon/tomato/mushroom omlet and... fell asleep. Normally I have the day off which means we could be doing anything from visiting zee parents to reading, seeing friends...

nathalie (nathalie), Monday, 14 October 2002 06:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Yesterday: papers in the morning, research/work for Church of Me, Uncut and Stylus for most of the rest of the day, Clockwork Orange on Channel 4 about which I will have CONSIDERABLY MORE TO SAY on t'Church later on today or tomorrow.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 14 October 2002 07:49 (twenty-three years ago)

yesterday = look after poorly Vicky, eat eggs on toast, read Sunday papers, watch Grand Prix, watch west wing *and* six feet under *and* new (quite poor) Simpsons. It was quite relaxing and nice actually.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:40 (twenty-three years ago)

went to bed at 5 am, woke up at 11, watched Almost Famous on cable, took a nap and dreamt a really long dream about having sex with Gene Simmons, woke up at 9, finished reading The Winter of Our Discontent and have been fucking around ever since. An odd day.

luna.c (luna.c), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Work 8.30 to 18.30. Went to meet my girlfriend after that, ate a Chinese takeaway, then we went to see "Red Dragon". Dull, but pleasent enough. Wish i didn't have to work 10 hours on Sundays, as there is little chance for me to watch live football.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:25 (twenty-three years ago)

(btw, I do not now, nor have I ever had, sexual designs on Gene Simmons - I think my brain just hates me)

luna.c (luna.c), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to just stay in bed and then eat junk food all day until having a spliff with my friends in the evening as a sort of end of weekend conversation starter. But since I haven't been out clubbing the last two Saturdays I've gone out the last two Sundays for a few drinks. Yesterday I watched TV all day and then went to Crash, this new night a friend has started, met some ilxers and another very good friend and drank for a while. Then went for something to eat, we had kebabs and they weren't too dodgy, very nice in fact.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Yesterday - watched cartoons in bed, got up, played records and fiddled with the computer, had one of Matt's divine home made cappuccinos and some toast, attempted to write and failed, went to see One Hour Photo (crap), went to Borders, came home, read, watched Enterprise, ate a baked potato, read, watched A Clockwork Orange, went to bed. All of the above punctuated with sniffling and coughing.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I traipsed down Fleet St, around St Pauls and the Barbican and through Clerkenwell in the drizzle, taking photographs of examples of the letter "S" on shopfronts/streetsigns/gravestones/graffiti for my typography course. I visited the St Bride's Printing Library. I saw the Postman's Park plaques of selfless heroism that Steadymike mentioned to me the other day. I had a pint in the deserted Princess Louise. For nostalgia's sake, I had a spicy beanburger meal in Wimpey on Kingsway, which afforded a great tableau of Autumn Hitting London.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"pleasent enough"

Pardon my spelling.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Yesterday - band rehearsal in Acton from 10.30 to 2.30, then long late lunch with friends. Too much booze by far and felt a bit ropey in the evening.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Most Sundays: Wake up around 9:30; Eat brunch at a local diner (french toast, decaf coffee, hash browns); Visit thrift stores, book stores, record stores & guitar stores; Go home and play with any new purchases; Sit outside on the deck if it's nice (or in bed if it's chilly) and read & write in my journal; play with my kitties & my boyfriend; watch a movie at some point. The end.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 14 October 2002 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

yesterday - lie in until 1pm which is unusual for me. made and ate scrambled eggs. bought and read the observer (except for the business and cash sections and most of the news section) whilst listening to total 4 and herbert's 'secondhand sounds'. ironed trousers. had flatmate's homemade soup and vegetarian 'stew' for tea. craved meat. showered. watched 'being john malkovich' on dvd with flatmate and french au-pair from downstairs with spl-iffs and beer. went to bed.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 14 October 2002 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Sundays I usually have good intentions but I normally end up shaggin' all morning (isn't that what Sundays were invented for?) and then going shopping.

Plinky (Plinky), Monday, 14 October 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

shaggin' and shoppin' - rock on.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 14 October 2002 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Sat massacring a great big pail of crayfish, dipping them, potatoes and bread in a butter and Noilly Prat sauce, while waiting for A Clockwork Orange to come on.

Then watching film while drinking a nice gin martini.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 14 October 2002 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

A Nairn - How do you make your own drum kit?

Nick A., Monday, 14 October 2002 15:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I did it over the summer. It was a great idea, because it was easy, now I can play drums with out having to buy a kit, and it sounds good and different too. I recommend anybody with an interest try it.

description:
found material : a snare stand I found in a dumpster, a gas can (high tom), a large water bottle (low tom), a large metal rod (triangle), telephone bells from old telephone, an old cookie tin (snare), a halagen lamp stand cut up (chimes), a large thick cardboard tube from industrial food wrap (woodblock), a metal block
(i didn't find it all, but I may replace the parts I bought in the future)
purchased from friend: bass drum with pedal and high hat with pedal. (these would be the hardest pieces to make/find)

I have many parts hanging from the ceiling, and I put the water bottle between my legs and mostly use mallets (they sound better than sticks.) Most of the work is just finding things that make good sounds.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:24 (twenty-three years ago)

yesterday, went to my grandparents', made a play with my cousins, took a walk in the park, and ate apple pie. unusual and very very nice sunday, i wish i could do that every sunday!
