Not a big fan of Black Christmas, actually. I like it better in principle/on paper.

Having just seen A Christmas Story, slight preference for the horror movie. I liked most of A Christmas Story fine, but I found Black Christmas very interesting historically--as I asked on another thread, I wondered after seeing it for the first time a couple of years ago if it was the blueprint for all modern slasher films.

one year passes...

finally rewatched Black Christmas (OG). the film doesn't go full nihilist, allowing levity, mostly through the dimwitted cop role Nash, which was common in these 70s slashers, but there isn't much escapism to be had either. it really dumps the weight of everything that is happening on you throughout. by the time Hussey was lying in bed in silence, sedated, after the cops all leave to take Mr Harrison to the hospital, and you know the killer is still in the house, my hair stood on end.

classic through and through but one that don't leave you feeling very good after.

the abrupt, chilling transition in demeanor from "let me lick it, let me lick your pig cunt" to "I'm going to kill you" on the first phone call is masterful.
