i think its great. she is going to study extra-murally ( off campus ) and is getting quite excited about it. it is like she has suddenly been injected with a new vitality that was lacking before. she commented on the general dullness of conversation at her golf club, and was horrified to realise some of the women in her circle were not the 'chatty-local-older-ladies' talking about local issues that she had thought, but actually quite narrow-minded and dare i repeat it, ignorant.
i think mum got scared she may turn into a dullard unless she pursued something of interest other than what 'old-ladies' are meant to like.
i think she will do really well, and i am now interested to see the effect on my father as he discovers he may have to fend for himself a bit.
i also think mum is brave. she may not be attending classes with a bunch of young students, but she is embarking on a journey into an area usually reserved for younger people.
what do you think?

I think it's great! My mum went back to school at 40 after thinking she was dull/dumb for years, now she's a teacher with like a zillion letters after her name and she's a completely different person - I'm really proud of her.

My mum went back to university at the age of 50. So HER mum, not to be outdone, went back to university at the age of 80. She was the oldest person in South Africa ever to be awarded a PhD. It made the papers and everything.

Mums going back to college = CLASSIC. Especially if it means that it makes them look at their own accomplishments and stop getting on the backs of their kids to live out the mums' dreams.

My Mum did her 'A' levels with a couple of toddlers roaring around the house and has also just started university now that we've finished. It won't surprise me if she is the first member of my family to get a first.

My mom takes classes at the college where she works, my dad is going to classes for his work, and my sister is still in college, so I am currently the only member of my immediate family NOT in college.
