Loved the absurdly elaborate high school dance maze thing.

A good time, yeah, but as with Wingard's previous You're Next, it winds up just shy of something truly remarkable. Loved both the slow build up front and the third act's absurd ascent into full-blown Carpenter worship. Nice soundtrack, too. Dan Stevens is very strong as the villain, but I was distracted by the sense that his character (and much of the film's aesthetic) had been ported in directly from NWR's Drive.

liked You're Next better, this just kinda seemed like a lot of surfacey cool stuff thrown together to no real end

Having seen Dan Stevens in this and A Walk Among the Tombstones (super gray and gloomy Liam Neeson revenge thriller) I have great difficulty imagining him in what I picture as the world of Downton Abbey (which I've never seen).

This was pretty cool. Great soundtrack!
Had no idea dude was in Downton Abbey (I've never seen it), or even English. I can tell usually, especially when they're putting on Southern accents.

This movie's soundtrack and the recent John Carpenter Lost Themes album have sent me down a major synthwave-Bandcamp rabbit hole.

What a brilliant first hour, and what a crushing letdown beyond that. Like, imagine if Shadow of a Doubt had suddenly morphed into Universal Soldier an hour in.
