because things like the vice magazine thread (and momus, ha ha) really make me wonder.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

so far the best i can do is "better bagels."

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Do not sneeze at them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, but it seems a bit much to base a 2900 mile move (again) on.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

It's closer to London?

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

No no I'm saying stay put - I don't want you sneezing on my bagels!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

just for that i'm moving for sure.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

*hastily grabs all bagels in house and eats them*

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

nice try, hand! but you can't possibly eat ALL the bagels in the whole CITY!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Come to NY, yay! In the words of the immoratal Jonathan Franzen (haha) it's the only city that you can live in and not ask, 'why here?' Before you all rush to attack him--I know, he's a chump and can go back to St. Louis for all I care...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 October 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

uh how does nancy feel about this? personally i would NEVER EVER want to live in NY (nor Tokyo for that matter... actually not even London... Paris... uh... I like it HERE). anyway uh yeah nancy how does she feel about this?

nathalie (nathalie), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

she doesn't want to stay in olympia once she graduates and is looking at grad schools in nyc, but last time i checked we weren't siamese twins.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Have you checked recently?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

well, not recent...hey, when did THAT get there?!?!

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

so you can stalk strokes wannabes instead of olympia indie kids?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm afraid i dont quite see the difference.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess, it's easy enough to live in NYC and avoid THOSE people -- my instincts are good when it comes to knowing which bars and clubs to stay away from.

The indie kids (the college ones) are also really obnoxious, but they don't hang out in those places.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 14 October 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

"i'm afraid i dont quite see the difference"

A few thousand miles!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

touche.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

jonathan franzen, bagels, and kids with bad bowl cuts are not cutting for me here folks!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Lady, if you have to ask...

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 14 October 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

ALL-NIGHT BOOZING AT THE BAR.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

dan gets a cookie.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

You want to move here cuz on any given night of the week, there's something cool going on somewhere. The restaurants are great and sometimes they're even cheap. There's a good variety of bars -- trendy Vice bars, crusty punk/goth bars, dirty old man bars, jazz bars, gay/lesbian bars. There are some decent record stores. Central Park is pretty. There are subways and buses and PATH trains (oh my). And it's fun to be surrounded by so much history -- small towns have history too, but it's usually like "the hula hoop was invented here sixty years ago" and the town has been frozen in time since then.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 14 October 2002 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope you don't smoke cigarettes!

Aaron A., Monday, 14 October 2002 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, order off-brand cigarettes from Russia like everyone else is. I think they're dipped in formaldehyde but that just adds to the "flavor"

geeta (geeta), Monday, 14 October 2002 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

haha history! My first visit to NY, my proud host pointed at this church, telling me it was the oldest in the city/state/country (can't remember). Turned out to be newer than the house I'd grown up in.

Yes, I acknowledge that New York has rather more history than Olympia (except in its suggestion of ancient Greece).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 14 October 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Couldn't have been the oldest in the country; that would have to be in either Massachusetts or Florida. (The church I sing at now is a good 420 years old; not bad for an upstart nation.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 October 2002 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Move to Cleveland!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 14 October 2002 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

In Cleveland the streets are paved with bagels. The downside to this is that your car must be equipped with power schmearing.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 14 October 2002 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

if all the puns are that frightening then cleveland is off the list.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 14 October 2002 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

come to london and we'll egt you more drunk than evah!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 14 October 2002 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

more reasons to feel sorry for yourself than ever! (like you need them)

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 14 October 2002 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

In Cleveland the streets are paved with bagels. The downside to this is that your car must be equipped with power schmearing.

!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 14 October 2002 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

this power schmearing thing plus everything duane says plus bnw's dream about dan have been responsible for a day-redeeming amount of amusement

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 14 October 2002 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"everything duane says"? hey i haven't said anything! ok tho - last time i was in NY i got enough [description of illegal activity excised] to [description of near lethal stupidity excised] on for only 10 amerikan dollars! plus it's a hot terrorist target! plus the strokes are from there!

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Because nobody here is ever in the least defensive. Or sarcastic. Oh, nosireejess!

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait...what was bnw's dream? [ going to check other thread]

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 October 2002 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

becuz we're here - at least 7 of us on thread so far
and because even Dan's not so far (away)
'cept then you wouldn't be able to make threads like this one
but you wouldn't have time to either...
but then you wouldn't be Jess(!)?

(should've quit while I wuz ahead)

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

the answer:
because when you are in NYC, and it is a beautiful night, you don;t have to sit idly and wonder what is happening out there in the real world, cause you are already there.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

So you can come to NYC FAPs.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

that's the best answer so far.

(some of these are just confusing.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

but last time i checked we weren't siamese twins.
last time I heard you were in a relationship with her. but hey jess whatEVER.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

because there's a Princess Cake here with your name on it?

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

and you dropped your nametag here?

*points at pile of sugar on kitchen floor teeming with cockroaches*

hmm, wait, that's not right

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

duane i meant everything you say ever

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

(hey nath, i know it's hard for you to understand since humanity is your second language, but perhaps i don't want to discuss the details of my relationship on a board that my girlfriend frequents occasionally.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

OK Jess, THAT'S ENOUGH. FUCKING LAY OFF NATHALIE NOW. THAT'S A FUCKING ORDER.

I've given you a very easy ride on this issue so far but no more. You want to make a mess of your life, to make an enemy of everyone else on this planet, then go ahead - just go and do it somewhere else.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess, it was merely a question. You could have just ignored it.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

oh marcello calm down.

nath, it was a question that didn't need to be asked, as it's a. a silly thread and b. not really anyones concern but my own.

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

can i come in on this thread?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)
