Welp.

The untitled sci-fi project is separate from “Prometheus 2,” which Fox is still making with Ridley Scott.

oh god

bizarro gazzara, Thursday, 19 February 2015 10:57 (ten years ago)

the concept art blomkamp put out a while back, which included hicks from aliens, kinda made it look like a direct sequel to that movie, which i guess would take 3 and resurrection out of canon? the thought of ridley scott and neill blomkamp chewing on the alien universe from opposite ends is not an appealing one.

dont say canon I'm not fit for the screeching this morning

Too little, too late. Nuke the series from space.

Elysium was so terrible that I can't imagine anticipating a Blomkamp thing anymore.

ive seen the trailer for that twice and it nearly forced me out of the movie i wanted to actually watch the second time

Fingers crossed Sigourney Weaver's not attached, or if she is, cameo-only. No issues with her as an actress, only with the Shatneriffic identification of Ripley as the continued human focus of the Alien series.

if the concept art is anything to go by blomkamp wants her in it:

(i look forward to the contortions required to get ripley in that helmet given prometheus' space jockey shenanigans)

bizarro gazzara, Thursday, 19 February 2015 16:42 (ten years ago)

He should make a movie populated entirely by cyborgs and frustrated aliens.

Weaver recounts (Louis) C.K. saying, "I wanna be in it, and I wanna die in a terrible way."

one year passes...

I'm thinking this is the best option for a general Neill Blomkamp thread in that it's about a dead project

So, Oats Studios? I'm hopeful, mostly due to Blomkamp's strengths being in short form work with a heavy visual component and a dystopian junk aesthetic. Outside of his work directing commercials, it's interesting how much material is recycled from aborted projects.

I recently read a retrospective of the Halo video games, and apparently they were much further into creating a movie for the franchise with Peter Jackson producing, and Blomkamp directing, than I realized. Some of the proposed plot included soldiers who end up with alien physiology -- the arm in District 9, and apparently a couple of the guns, were basically prop reuse.

Oats Studios looks like it reuses a lot of the conceptual work he'd done for a possible Alien movie, down to Sigourney Weaver making an appearance.

And, having now watched it, it's both crappy and gratuitously nasty

Mince Pramthwart (James Morrison), Friday, 16 June 2017 11:49 (eight years ago)

funnily enough i rescreened elysium yesterday just to have something on in the background while i was rewiring a guitar and it's even worse than i remembered it, just a total mess

blomkamp is good at designing cool-looking guns and robots and nothing else, really

I feel like he should find a good writer/collaborator, or at very least a hands-on producer

mh, Friday, 16 June 2017 12:42 (eight years ago)

i would watch the shit out of this tv series
