Muppet Show only despite Kermit being a constant, it felt wrong to be pitting Muppet Show regulars against e.g Big Bird

They really are such a tight unit, none of them really work in isolation.

Where is Sweetums? C'mon man. It's Sweetums.

Darin, Thursday, 19 February 2015 20:16 (ten years ago)

Rowlf seems like he'd be the easiest to hang out with.

this is not like the Preston Sturges stock company, where Demarest is the clear standout and proto-Muppet

Yeah I think it's Sam. Someone just made me aware of Lips.

men without hat tips (Hunt3r), Thursday, 19 February 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

I've always thought that Waldorf had an air of quiet melancholy about him that made for a richer character than Statler. He never speaks of his deceased wife but you can see the longing in his sad eyes as he covers up his pain with snark. I never got much of a sense of Statler's internal life.

I've been way into the work of Fozzy Bear since childhood, so it would feel wrong of me to go any other way.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 February 2015 21:01 (ten years ago)

fucking hell this is difficult. kermit / piggy / gonzo all in the running but tempted by Sam the eagle just for his badge-battle in muppets most wanted

yeah gotta agree, Kermit/Fozzy/Piggy is the Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman 'big three' here. best supporting muppet would have made this hard as shit, though in the end i'd probably swing Beaker. as it is, Kermit all the way. i mean, that nervous gulp he does. plus even if this is a "muppet show" poll, i can't help but associate him with so many brilliant Sesame Street bits.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 22 February 2015 03:13 (ten years ago)

Kermit had to emcee and therefore always had to be the most adult muppet in the room. Miss Piggy was a great catalyst who always made things happen, but her personality made her less than endearing. So even though they dominated the show, I couldn't vote for them. I had to look elsewhere.

Consequently I hesitated a while over Rowlf and Sam the Eagle, but finally pulled the lever for Fozzy Bear. He would thank me for my vote and clap me on the back. I feel sure of it.

Kermit had to emcee and therefore always had to be the most adult muppet in the room.

This is what makes it so great when he gets agitated though... he's this bottled-up neurotic wreck with his crinkled-up face, etc., etc.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 22 February 2015 04:11 (ten years ago)

It's the fate of Buffy, Walter White, Don Draper, Kermit-- they'll never win a best character poll.

drash, Sunday, 22 February 2015 04:22 (ten years ago)

Rowlf.
