the Babs movie has huge unintentional laffs; when she finally yields to Nick Nolte it's worse than a Hallmark Channel movie. There's an interaction b/w Nolte and a childhood gay friend that is progressive for its time.

I remember my dad wanting to rent The Prince of Tides because he grew up down the street from Kate Nelligan, and it was the film she got her Oscar nod for. Thing is, I don't think he realized it was a Barbara Streisand flick, and I seem to recall him bailing fairly early on, leaving my mom and I to finish it. Only thing I really remember about the film is that it is like 90 minutes of getting over painful childhood trauma that took an inexplicable (to me, at the time) turn towards sappy romance for the last 45 mins or so.
