where do you rank in the results, if at all?

put it in speechmarks for better results of course...i'm top of my own list and proud, though it did take some time to beat off the corporate lawyer in Houston and the comic book artist who share my moniker

blueski, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

bizarrely, a webpage I haven't touched in 6 years ranks highest for mine, which must come as an annoyance to the Captain of Wigan Football club, or the respected Australian technology editor, or the

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Think that's the captain of Wigan Rugby League Football club you're thinking of. I was secretly hoping you were him.

lol p xx, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 09:47 (twenty-three years ago)

(ahem)

other Andrew Farrell, from Dublin, who works on the web for a living. My apologies to them all.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 09:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah. Even here he gets more love than me. Still, I win the Googlefite.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

my full name = I'm the only one!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And me..

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean with middle name/initial? That's cheating.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:04 (twenty-three years ago)

With my full name in speechmarks, all the top ten results are MEEEEEEEE in various incarnations. I don't think there are any others.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:09 (twenty-three years ago)

No - not with middle names.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Big round of applause for the only other webpage with my name on it that has fuck all to do with me:

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Oops tell a lie. There was one of me born in Yorkshire in 1841, quite possibly a great-great-grandmother.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha unless she married her own brother/cousin or something that's not likely AT ALL, come to think of it.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I win the Google fite too, although I win it by talking total bollocks on ILE greenspun, so the victory is hollow.
Then there's the fictional Anna Fieldings. One is a madge-in-waiting leader of the Tellerites in some sci-fi book called 'The Compass of the Soul' (you would expect a more exotic name for that), one is an adopted child and the third fictional one is here

www.herdofsheep.com/issue_55/survey.asp

which has nothing to do with me whatsoever, but throws up some worrying paralells, although I would never survey my friends and they don't all carry coke around. May sue for defamation of character.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Archel, perhaps she was a proto-feminist.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The only mention of my real name I can find anywhere is on a census record from 1928 Franklin Co, Waynesboro! I am unique, well my name at least...

Plinky (Plinky), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

The only other google hits on my name that I can find refer to a bloke that used to live in the same village as I did, and I know him. Or well, my dad does anyway. He's a runner. I am most definitely not. Why oh why oh why didn't I submit my writing under a pseudonym? Oh yeah. I've remembered now. It's because I'm STUPID.

lol p xx, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I win mine with my King Of The Boots article on Freaky Trigger, which also somehow garners me top Music Journalist Status in Germany and Croatia which quotes me as follows
:the best Bootlegs is like car accidents", writes the English music critic Pete Baran. "usually horribly, in addition, of a strange fascination."

Which I think is a double translation of "a new bootleg, is like watching a car crash. Often messy, often fascinating"

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 10:39 (twenty-three years ago)

A google search for my name yields ~22 results, only two of which do not pertain directly to me. Go me!

Also, a search for my surname refers directly to either myself, my father, my uncle, or my mother for the first twenty results or so.

sean g, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to think doing this was a really pathetic g*ndola bob thing to do, but curiosity got the better of me -- just to make sure that there aren't any nicole hate sites or some porn chiX0r with the same name.

So when I do finally google my name the first site that pops up is this. It's so anti-climatic.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but not if you put your name in quotes, Nicole.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't bother with all of that. Oh, so now I'm the recipient of a "Vulcan Scholarship". I wonder if that means there's a nicole out there with pointy ears.

Another one?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Due to having a fairly unusual last name, there is only one other google person with my name, and he is/was a high school wrestler. There are all these pages with his stats and everything.

A photo of me comes top! Another photo comes second, from the days of long hair in a ponytail, plus a beard! Then it's this nonsense here, which comfortably beats out the medical professor and the sensei of the Imperial Shotokan Karate School, achievements that are clearly as nothing compared to talking bollocks on ILX.

apart from that there's the christian computing guy, an artist in South Carolina and some historian guy from canada

this has led me to discover that carsmile.com (rub french on-line auto dealership) has GONE though, hahahahaha...

I was about to say, Dan, what is the difference between that guy and you? ;-)

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I get 7 pages of Hanson slash stories till my first mention, which is a hate mail piece someone wrote to me in the college paper. If you look deep enough there is a gay porn "star" with my same name. He is a "hot innocent cub" or something to that effect. Free pictures online.

Holy shit! This is about something I wrote in 1995!

Man, it's creepy seeing all these residual "furry" websites that mention me. If I knew drawing cartoon animals would expose me to so much goddamned weirdness, I never would've started in the first place.

If you do a google image search and come up with a thumbnail that links to an image that doesn't exist anymore, is there any way to show the thumbnail here as an image through the img src coding? I guess I want to find the address for the thumbnail, not the pic itself.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 19 December 2003 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I did this the other day and all I have to say is that by page 4 or 5 of the Google results, I came upon a page titled "she fucked my ass." I was #23. Well, a link to an old article of mine was #23. I still don't understand how I'm associated with that page. And not for nothing, I'd have remembered if I fucked a girl in the ass, thank you very much.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 19 December 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Other residual strangeness:

contributions to the Simpsons newsgroup, ca. 1996-97
user-made Need For Speed cars (I am a l33t m0d cr3A+0r)
some post to some board in 1996 or so in which I accuse John Major of having a Mr. Bean voice

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 19 December 2003 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Some shitty articles I wrote, stuff about various bands I was in, an article about the college radio station I was involved with, and pages of records for the high school/college wrestler who shares my name. I wanted to link to his picture because it's funny, but oh well.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 19 December 2003 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

My real name is shared with a very well-known land use/planning professor from Australia, several other random professors, a director of a large international bank, a science fiction author, a guy who gave his wife one of his kidneys, a chief executive of a major health care trust in the U.K., several doctors, a '28 year old Redskins fan', an Australian guy highly placed in the "Victorian Government eCommerce Roadshow" whatever that is, a highly ranked am/pro billiards player in the U.K., the director of investment for 'Communities Scotland', a Welsh Rally Car Race Team member, an internet comic website admin, and so on. My name, which is fairly uncommon in the states, is extremely common among U.K. and Aussie folk.

I'm not on there for about 20 pages or so.

impeachment hearings?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I think in the presidential context, "impeachment" only refers to the official accusation. Both Clinton and Andrew Johnson were impeached; only in the latter's case did it result in him leaving office.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

impeachment is the process not necessarily the result?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish something would come up when I Google my name. It's almost as if I don't exist!

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

you obviously aren't getting the right, uh, what was it Clinton got impeached for? whatever it was, that's what you should do, or get, or whatever. it may not get on googley, but it will probably make you not care for a while.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't exist either, except for one question to a newsgroup about javascript. It was a stupid question too.

A friend of mine with a fairly common name shares a name with a scary Christian fundamentalist. It's amusing to google his name and get links to various academic/liberal writings of his along with over-the-top religious drivel.
