Really hard to read this piece without thinking of the High Maintenance episode he did
― 龜, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 21:49 (nine years ago) link
yeah, seems like that ep captured some irl facet(s) of his personality & experience

He wonders if the altitude will affect his stamina—"I'll give you 90 seconds in this high altitude"—before conceding that he's actually "not a good first fuck." "My dick is like the Yeezus album," he offers: though he might at first seem an underwhelming lay, he merely requires patience, careful study, and maybe an open-minded spirit. "Oh shit," Hannibal says. "There's different levels to this!"

Hannibal doesn't really strike me as a "nerd" per se

Back when Hannibal still lived in chicago I won tickets to see a comic who was in from Australia. Hannibal opened and destroyed it, first time I'd heard of him. Then the Australian came on and was terrible. I think Hannibal had moved to nyc within six months of that
When I moved to ny myself a few years later, the very first night I was in town a friend of mine invited me out to hannibal's knitting factory open mic and the surprise guest at the end of the night was Chris rock

that vulture piece strikes me as half assing it. "Let's define this new wave of comedians by their origins playing white rooms, the subjects they tackle, and the more relaxed styles they use, then conclude by saying maybe we need to retire labels altogether." Like way to undercut the entire premise of your article? Idk that kind of thing drives me nuts, maybe if you find yourself backpedalling at the end your initial approach might be flawed
They even have a segment where they talk about how these aren't the first comedians to do so but just leave it as a laundry list of names.

Just watched an episode tonight. It's an incredibly awkward show - trying to fit Hannibal into a "standard" CC talk show format doesn't really work. There was a bit with Eric Andre where he pretty much admitted their sloppiness and likelihood that the show will be cancelled. On the street segments are OK but also... not really working, like bad Letterman or Conan bits.
Still, they had some guy named Thundercat playing a six-string electric bass and signing 70s-style R&B who was pretty cool, so it wasn't a total loss I guess

Thundercat is a big deal fyi

idk that Thundercat is a "big deal," but he's a bigger deal than "some guy named Thundercat."
― jaymc, Thursday, 13 August 2015 04:27 (nine years ago) link
this show is fucking terrible
― slam dunk, Thursday, 13 August 2015 04:39 (nine years ago) link
yeah i admit to being totally clueless about him. he was cool!
― Nhex, Thursday, 13 August 2015 04:59 (nine years ago) link

It's so embarrassing.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 13 August 2015 13:42 (nine years ago) link
I can't even watch it! And I LOVE him. I wish he'd never made this stupid show.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 13 August 2015 13:43 (nine years ago) link
I find it hard to see the other concept he pitched and cc passed on(working a day @ a diff job each ep) being much better tbh
otoh, it couldn't have been worse than this
― johnny crunch, Thursday, 13 August 2015 14:02 (nine years ago) link
what is even the pitch for this version of the show? "I'm gonna... talk about ... stuff a little. maybe some sketches sometimes? uh. you know, variety." I love Hannibal but it just seems like he doesn't give a shit about this.
― (extremely nerds voice) (Clay), Thursday, 13 August 2015 15:55 (nine years ago) link
I'm pretty sure I could make a funnier show.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 13 August 2015 18:05 (nine years ago) link
Problem is
he doesn't give a shit about this.
There's probably a format or structure that would make the best of what he does well but I can't imagine what it could be.
― tsrobodo, Thursday, 13 August 2015 22:53 (nine years ago) link
that format is the eric andre show
― nose, Thursday, 13 August 2015 23:16 (nine years ago) link
probably but that wasn't 'his' show. Not sure that the format works with him in the lead.

I really enjoyed it, good use of post - production, nice to see him healthy and in full control of his harmonizer fx.
