i'm not much of a "voter" or "citizen", but they seem cool to me! they have already denounced the recent tragic event as an act of terrorism. no pussyfooting for my new friends the Greens!
i don't know what you have to do to join yet, but i'm gonna look into it. probably have to go to a gun store and register to vote or something.
they don't take corporate donations, did you know that?

friend of mine just told me you can't register in MA as a green person...
― scott seward, Saturday, 20 June 2015 17:14 (ten years ago)
sounds cool to me too. What kind of things have they accomplished or worked on lately? We don't even register as party members down here so it would be easy.

"The Green Party calls mass incarceration, excessive police and prosecutorial power, and extreme racial disparities in arrests, prosecution, and conviction a national emergency that requires emergency measures. Minimal efforts by Democrats and Republicans to address this crisis, along with their role in supporting the war on drugs and passage of draconian laws, have placed both parties on the wrong side of this crisis," said Thomas Muhammad, co-chair of the Green Party Black Caucus.

I've been registered as a Green since 1999. I worked for a few campaigns back then, but I haven't been active that way since 2004. Re-registering as a Green is a small gesture, as politics go, but a satisfying one, too.

Quick question--what does "registering" for a certain party mean? This seems to be a US-specific idea I can't get my head around. Is it like becoming a member of the party, or what?

In some states, when you register to vote you get a voter registration card that states your party affiliation. In primary elections, you are only allowed to vote for a candidate from the party that you are registered for. In the general election, you can vote for any party that you want.

Ah, so its a way to, for example, stop democrats all voting for the most idiotic republican to go up against their guy in the presidential election

this is the key part, my wife has been registered as an Independent for many years, but since she wants to vote for Bernie over Hilary in the primary she needs to re-register as a Democrat. Pretty sure I voted for Stein in '08 and '12, but honestly can't remember.

no surprise why Caroline gets the nod from David Attenborough, wouldn't touch the UK greens with a shitty stick (and I know it would end up smelling much worse if I did)

Yeah, i switched from independent to dem to vote for bernie in that primary, too. nobody i vote for in dem primaries ever wins so it feels like what's the point. i voted for cynthia nixon/jumaane/teachout over cuomo/hochul/james in 2018 and like i wasn't expecting a different outcome but it's still frustrating. after adams won the 2021 mayoral primary i really can't be bothered.
I vote for whoever i want in the general which has included a few green party candidates over the years, 'my district is rock solid blue anyhow so fuck it i am voting for dragonfly today' kinda mentality
sigh

really i just need to move to a more competitive district or state so that i can turn up on primary day or election day and feel like it was really worthwhile and productive to vote for whichever dogshit candidate the dems have forced down our throats

"The Dems need to be stopped. Either vote for Trump or if you just can’t then vote Green. Either way this nonsense needs to stop."
