Mind Reading Tricks - Can Anyone Help?

Whilst away on a team-building trip, two of the leaders did a mind reading trick for us. No one could decipher how it worked, and thye weren't telling, so can anybody here help?

The basic trick was this:

One would act as psychic and the otehr as mediator. The mediator would ask a random person to name any town or city (lets say Manchester). The psychic would not have heard this. The mediator would then name towns to the psychic, deliberately not the one mentioned by the audience member i.e Aberdeen, Blackpool etc. The psychic would answer "no" to each incorrect one, and when the mediator sais "Manchester" he would answer "yes".

It worked every time no matter what town was mentioned, and there were several variations (pointing to items on the table etc).

There seemed to be no pattern in how many false answers were suggested before the real one, no communication whatsoever.

So, how was it done?

I do this "mind reading" trick. It's my party piece, and now it will be spoiled because everyone will know my secret!

The way it works is very simple. I do the one where I leave the room, someone touches an object, and then when I return I will be able to tell what was touched because THE PERSON WILL HAVE LEFT A TINY AMOUNT OF THEIR BODY HEAT ON IT (ha! ha!)

I touch items on the table in turn, and when I touch the right one, my partner-in-crime who is in on the whole thing will then sniff once, very very very quietly. I will be listening out for this so will hear it. No-one else will notice. It's very simple, but quite effective.

I need to get a new party trick now. :(

Yeah, it's usually a trigger where the person guessing is listening for a keyword (a word beginning with 'M', say, or ending with 'G') or a key action (blinking twice, a cough, scratching the side of the head, etc). Once you figure out the tell, the trick is easy.

what you do is you pre-arrange that the city/place/whatever
that's the winner is always going to be
say, the 7th after the mediator say bradford
so it then goes 'bradford no, st. helens - no, winchester - no,
afghanistan - no, bele vale - no, motherwell - no, warrington - no,
paris - yes!'.

i have a cool trick . You need someone else to do this with you . okay youll need a square napkin , 9 coins and something to drink , okay you will put the coins in a square so they resemble the shape of the napkin then you will leave the room and some one will point to a coin . your partner will then take a drinl from his glass and place it where the coin that was touched is . ( on the napkin , place drink on the napkin equal to the coins position ) and you will easily find it . i got my family on this one!!! lol
