The Perils Of Drink Revealed!

This is a mixtape I and two accomplices made when in an advanced state of inebriation in November 200. Copies are available to registered abstinence charities on request. (Or any lunatic who wants to do a C90Go!)

(The tape is abominably mixed throughout and there are several criminal attempts at cross-mixing tracks, plus the occasional intercut into a British West Country Accents sound effects LP. Also 'scratching'.)

SIDE ONE:
1. John singing opening bars of "The Logical Song"
2. Supertramp - "The Logical Song"
3. Bruce Willis - "Under The Boardwalk"
4. The Streetband - "Toast"
5. B.A. Robertson - "To Be Or Not To Be"
6. Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers - "C'Mon Everybody"
7. Sue Wilkinson - "You've Got To Be A Hustler If You Want To Get On"
8. Carter USM - "Falling On A Bruise"
9. Barry Manilow - "Let's Hang On"
10. Smokie - "Mexican Girl"
11. The Prodigy - "Smack My Bitch Up"
12. Jona Lewie - "You Will Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties"
13. Black - "Wonderful Life"
14. Surface Noise - "The Scratch"
15. East 17 - "Stay Another Day"

SIDE TWO:

1. Twangy surf thing with wooshing noises and fake choir. Unidentifable.
2. Cats UK - "Luton Airport"
3. Stump - "Buffalo"
4. Inspiral Carpets - "Sackville"
5. Baby Bird - "45 And Fat"
6. Collage - "Romeo Where's Juliet"
7. Gravediggaz - "The Night The Earth Cried"
8. Sultans Of Ping FC - "Where's Me Jumper" (elongated by many unlistenable 'rewinds')
9. The Piranhas - "Tom Hark"
10. A House - "Endless Pet Art"
11. Sue Wilkinson - "You've Got To Be A Hustler If You Want To Get On
(Slight Return)"
12. Northside - "Shall We Take A Trip?"
13. The Bellamy Brothers - "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You
Hold It Against Me"
14. Barry Manilow - "Ready To Take A Chance Again"
15. That Petrol Emotion - "Sweet Shiver Burn"
16. Some Carter B Side or other
17. Errol Dunkley - "OK Fred"

The worst aspect of this is that THREE FURTHER C90s were made after this, during which another bottle of vodka was almost finished. Those have been destroyed I believe, Christ knows what we found to put on them.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

(NB any time a track you might think is 'good' comes up it is invariably savaged after a minute by rural accents and/or Sue Wilkinson.)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

MUST HAVE. Will happily review this for a C90 piece. Actually, drop me a line anyway about some article ideas I have...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 23:57 (twenty-three years ago)

10. A House - "Endless Pet Art"

I NEED to hear this

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 23:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry RickyT it isn't the 'real actual' EPA it's just boring old Endless Art but I included the injoke anyway.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 October 2002 00:01 (twenty-three years ago)

all dead but still ALOIVE!

all RickyT's pets ever (RickyT), Thursday, 17 October 2002 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Twangy surf thing with wooshing noises and fake choir. Unidentifable.

"Telstar" by The Torandoes!!!

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 17 October 2002 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

No no it isn't. It's not "Telstar" or "Pipeline" or one of the famous ones. The fake choir is kind of Gainsbourg-y. I know John owns some Man Or Astroman records so perhaps it's one of those.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 October 2002 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

British West Country Accents sound effects LP

I NEED to hear this!

(Well, OK, no, I don't, but I am boggling gently. Intriguing and very very scary. Someone stop me before I go to see if anyone on soulseek has any Pam Ayres. Perils of drink indeed.)

Rebecca (reb), Thursday, 17 October 2002 00:09 (twenty-three years ago)

WTF?!?!?!

Argh! Carter twice! Carter twice! And Northside too! Oh noooooooooo! Even Barry Manilow can't redeem this!

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 17 October 2002 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Even Barry Manilow can't redeem this!

Surely this is a classic pot/kettle situation if this the comparison being reached for.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 October 2002 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I will always love Manilow, my mom used to play Manilow to make me go to sleep at night when I was a kid. Which sounds like an insult, but it just means his music is very comforting.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 17 October 2002 01:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, well, then this cannot be denied. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 October 2002 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

that tape is visionary for November 200! Tom, you look great for your age. How can drink be bad when it pickles so perfectly?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 17 October 2002 06:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 October 2002 06:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Now I need to hustle a Mexican bitch to smack up!

dave q, Thursday, 17 October 2002 07:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I am a living West Country Sound Effects LP, tragically.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 October 2002 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

i think it sounds ace EXCEPT the manilow. only very exceptional states of consciousness allow me to listen to manilow

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 17 October 2002 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

i want you and your c90 baby.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 17 October 2002 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

You're only as sick as your secrets, Tom, and you're a brave man for copping to That Petrol Emotion.

dan (dan), Thursday, 17 October 2002 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Well that's the background music for the pr0n session sorted.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 October 2002 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

wow, that IS the exceptional state of consciousness i was thinking of. uncanny.

Alan (Alan), Friday, 18 October 2002 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom Ewing - Back to Mine

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we've just found the definitive explanation of why Tom stopped liking indie.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently one of the later tapes survives. It is called "666".

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

1. this is the worst tape ever

2. it was immediately obvious that it was made by tom

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 07:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Most of the track selection was not by me Gareth esp side 2! Point 1 is entirely correct.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The first track on side 1 however should be released to as many people as possible.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Track B1 is "Reel Ten" by The Plugz off of the Repo Man soundtrack; Track B16 is Carter USM's cover version of Randy Scouse Git (Alternate Title) by the Monkees from the B-side of Anytime Anyplace Anywhere.

John, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Having heard a lot of this at the weekend, and some of it twice I can confirm that it is every bit as awful as alleged/

alext (alext), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

four years pass...

Yousendit???

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 07:36 (eighteen years ago)

Some Carter B side or other

WHERE'S THE RESPECT???!!!!!????

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

I searched a bit but never found a reference to this:
dj trainwreck, the worst mixtape ever
I strongly recommend reading the introduction and listening to the mix straight through without skipping around. Maybe I'll start an ILM thread if it hasn't been mentioned before.

I have listened to this mix about ten times this week.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 07:49 (eighteen years ago)

Needless to say it's likely to be the greatest mixtape ever.
