This was a genuine surprise. I know she's been off the telly for a few years but at that point she seemed so robust and energetic and full of humour for her age. RIP. She's a legend isn't she?

Also she entertained millions on Saturday night ITV. I know that doesn't sit well with all of the 'I don't watch TV only HBO box sets and iPLayer on a laptop' vermin.

someone on FB mentioned she had a lot of dodgy connections and he expected there'd be a lot of worms coming out the woodwork soon, but i didn't know what he was talking about.

I know they both come from the same town so I shouldn't be surprised, but I still was a bit taken aback at how much her speech pattern resembles that of Paul McCartney.

I was watching that One Hand Clapping film the other night and McCartney barely had a Scouse accent in it and Cilla doesn't have much of one here either.

Not just the same town but the same part of town, IIRC. My grandparents, especially my grandmother had the same cadences. My dad went to quarry bank about 10 years after John and paul but lost his accent after moving south.

There's a story Macca tells at the 7:30 mark in Man on the Run which has the same beats as Cilla's OXO. Not to be confused with Celebes Ox.
