Where's the Bridge?

Everyday I drive over the Auckland Harbour Bridge to work (twice), its a bit of a skanky old coathanger but I am still strangely fond of it, mainly because on the drive home which is usually around 6pm the sun is usually setting and you get these wonderous bursts of sunlight beaming through the clouds all orange and tonight it was about to storm so the clouds were huge and black and the sea was a weird blue green. Does your city have a bridge? Have you visited a nice bridge on your holidays? (I have fond memories of Hammersmith Bridge when I lived in London).

didnt know you were in auckland gazza.
it is a nice bridge, and has a wonderful lead-up to it from the north with the view of the harbour.
i liked sydneys bridge too, but the view was never so good as the roads onto it are crammed in by more roads and apartment blocks/ city etc.
when i was a child i lived on the west coast, and the hokitika bridge was something else! a road and rail bridge, a mile long. so if you were halfway across and a train came hahahaha you had to make a break for the nearest car-cubby-hole. used to scare the shit out of me as a kid.

I live just near Hammersmith Bridge, and I cross it two or three times a week. It's a good bridge because it's a bit diferent, a bit of an outsider compared to london's austere bridges. It's also painted the Harrods colours, which is a bit dodgy these days.

When it was blown up a few years ago, after it had been shut for three years, I was so upset. Not sure why, but evidently something about it makes me a bit fond.

I don't live there, but I almost wish I did because this is genius.

I went on the worlds longest covered wooden bridge in Heartland, NB. My favorites though are the big ass bridge at Hartland over the Saint John cause its scary going down a snowy hill at 110 km into a narrow bridge with trucks skidding too and fro and almost jackknifing on both sides. The Confederation Bridge from Port Elgin, NB to Port Borden PEI, cause on a snowy day you can see how they designed the walls to form a wind barrier, kinda creepy and cool at the same time. That and you can drive over the Coast Gaurd ships breaking ice, which is insane. Honourable mention to both bridges in Halifax.

aka the glorious San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge, which connects Coronado to the mainland (at least more directly than the Silver Strand). It's a central memory of my youth -- you can see it from just about anywhere in town.

The historic Spiral Bridge of Hastings, MN. Sadly, it was demolished in 1951 and PEOPLE STILL TALK ABOUT IT. (Yet another reason why I left.)
