The Oyster girl = not her real accent. I saw her interviewed on BBC breakfast telly and she is super posh. Her voice isn't like I imagined it when I read the book.

what's sad abt TtV is that it surely cd have had it both ways much more interestingly: viz a portrait of the victorian sapphic underworld as it actually maybe was — i read recently (peter ackroyd?) that in london in c.1880, one house in 60 was a brothel!! — and not just a parade of crappy/complacent cliches abt uptight repressed victorians vs heroic underclass genderfuck warriors

(actually to be fair the story looks as if it might be intended as a slightly smarter critique of momus-world sentimentality than the rotten writing/acting quite manifest: eg that over the long haul it is arguing a similar line to madeleine's, viz keeping its audience w.promise of utopian webcam-style pervoid sex while revealing the Realm of Absolute Vanguard Liberation to be a subterranean labyrinth of unexamined etiquettes and hidden class distinctions, plus no escape at all general real-life tiresomeness)

(seeing as i haf watched abt seven minutes in total this may well be reaching wildly) (haha in a week's time i shall be defending the bad writing and acting also i expect)
