I can't find the cheque.

It's for 95 euros, I owe a friend 35 euros which he says he needs for us to go into beautiful picturesque trinity college and drink with our friend who studies there, I've looked all over my room, it's nowhere, even though it was on the desk last week. What the hell am I going to do? This is all my fault for buying that My House in Montmartre CD with money I didn't have and then going out last night at the last minute and dancing for a while.

Are you in financial woe? have you ever lost a cheque, if so where did you find it?

check all the compartments of your wallet. i often stuff cheques into my wallet intending to bring them to the bank and then forget all about them. if you don't find it in time smuggle cans into trinity, it'll be easy.

check your paying in book. maybe you paid it in when you were drunk?

We don't use cheques anymore. If I am not mistaken we don't even accept them in the shop. Everyone has bankcards (credit/debet cards) now. That said, I don't think I ever lost a cheque. Good luck, Ronan!

Why don't you call Una Power? She's on tonight at 10.

Lara, Friday, 18 October 2002 10:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I intend to smuggle cans into trinity anyway!

It's just my friend was like "oh you have that 35 euro" and I thought "of course" and he said "good because I need that to go out, I'm broke".

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 October 2002 10:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes I've already written to Anna Nolan.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 October 2002 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

And Mark - how often do you carry out financial transactions whilst drunk??? That's very irresponsible y'know.

Lara, Friday, 18 October 2002 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I reckon a sobbing letter to Live at Three (Dead at Four) to get the grannies dipping into the purses for this poor wee penniless lad.

Lara, Friday, 18 October 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, address the letter to 'Open House'. Hmph.

Lara, Friday, 18 October 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I might have lost one, they sent it to my house and my parents forwarded it on saturday, and it hasn't arrived yet. Though I haven't seen yesterday's or today's post yet.

I just searched again and emptied stuff and threw books around and I think it's gone forever. What a nightmare....

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 October 2002 10:41 (twenty-three years ago)

it's no use to you right now i know but you can contact the person/company the cheque was from and ask them to cancel it and reissue another. the money not gone for good, but your friend won't be happy.

angela (angela), Friday, 18 October 2002 10:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I thought of that alright, it's my brother so it should be no problem, I might have to resort to the parental atm, they're going to go mental though, even if it is my money.

My mate Micheal while working for his landlord managed to lose a rent check from someone else in his house by dropping it on the floor of his room and covering it with clothes.

Back in my days of still living like a student but on a proper job's pay I managed to completely lose one and not remember it until the next payday. Flatmates hated me for months.

fourteen years pass...

lol working through a v ancient pile of various stuff -- mostly notes for ancient articles by me -- i just discovered

a) my first ever payment enclosed slip from the wire (which i last saw when i was shredding a hufe bunch of ancient financial stuff abt three years ago)
b) a cheque to myself from a mag i worked for in 2001 for *quite a large amount*, evidently not paid in by me

i mean, i'm guessing (hoping) i asked them for a replacement cheque at the time!? ffs

maybe i should try and pay it in now lol

lost a cheque from a law firm for £35, the charge for reissuing was £25. i know cheques are annoying but c'mon. knowing it would be futile, i emailed to plead for clemency. emailed bounced, address not found. calls went to answerphone. didn't even bother to try and claw the £10 back in the end.
