Things to do in Denver

I'm going to Denver in 9 days! I'm so excited! Especially as the wolfshirted one will hopefully be able to show me around.

However, is there anything I should really be trying to do/see when I'm there? Ditto Vegas, where I'll be for two or three days.

Thanks all!

Good grief Mark, you don't tell me *anything* these days.

(looks sheepish about not phoning for ages)

Go to the Tattered Cover bookshop and buy lots of stuff you can't get here yet and nice magazines you won't be able to get here at all. Also I remember Grant & Jerry's record exchange on Colfax having tons of second hand (and kitsch) stuff I would have bought if I'd had the luggage to get it all home again. Wax Trax is a good place to buy CDs - it's on 13th Ave between Washington & Pennsylvania (I think - heck, Mandee knows where it is) and there are some second hand clothes shops round there too, but I found them fairly expensive. And Cherry Creek mall is hy-uge. And the Central Library on W. 14th Ave has free internet access. Will you smuggle me back some beef jerky please?

I didn't realise they had SWASTIKA RUNWAYS.

I'm never going back.

mark: um, go and sit on of the steps of the capitol and be a mile high and beside a plaque and get a photo. of course!

Go up to Boulder and eat Tapas (halfway decent Spanish restaurant there)

My only visit to Denver was less than fun: I had just been on the beach in California before getting there and had sunstroke, so the only things I did centred on staggering around, getting delirious, throwing up, then passing out for a while.

My only real memory of Denver was the extraordinary sight of this very regular grid city on a flat plain, then some miles west, the Rocky Mountains start, straight up, no foothills.

Eat at the Watercourse; go to the Art Museum for FREE!; go see the best BUSHES in Northern Colorado (I can't explain this. I'll just have to show you); go eat ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS; drive up to Idaho Springs, the NARROWEST TOWN IN THE USA!; Go to the BOTANICAL GARDENS (except it costs money, which is dumb); go see my friend Ian's PET BABY SQUIRREL!; See ME!; AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT FUCKING LEAST

GO TO CASA BONITA!!!!!!!!

Actually, the link that Jerry provided does have some true stuff.. there is some weird/creepy stuff at DIA that seems sort of random...

for instance, take a look at the following photo of and a friend in front of one of these scary murals:

The bit starting "Ladies and Gentlemen" on a site linked to from JtN's lizard site http://www.geocities.com/Area51/9357/ is alarming.

it is.

but so is this: go eat ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTERS

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, there are foothills here. the weather has been perfect the last few weeks and the ski resorts are opening now but then i don't ski.
i think ocean journey is still open, that seems touristy, they have great humidity which is lovely in the summer whent he air outside is so dry.
i can get into the botanic gardens for free.
idaho springs is a dud.
you could plant trees in the hayman fire area.
what is casa bonita?
for some reason there is good indian food here.
it is elk hunting season. or it was, a bunch of guys from my work brought in elk meat yesterday, i passed.

I miss Denver.

Mark C, Saturday, 26 April 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

I would go to the state capitol building and get my picture taken on the step marking Foot #5,280.

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 26 April 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

I see that Denver has glommed onna 5280 just like SF has 7x7.

tremendoid, Sunday, 27 April 2008 02:58 (seventeen years ago)

libcrypt for vegetarian food visit city o' city or watercourse

city o city is on 13th and sherman. take I-25 south to colfax, exit heading east. turn right on grant off colfax, then turn right again on 13th avenue. it's right next to a hair place called moxie right before sherman.

watercourse is on 17th avenue and emerson. it's way great and probably better than city o' city. again, take I-25 south to colfax, exit heading east. turn left on lincoln. turn right on 17th. then take a left on emerson to look for parking. it has green awnings and is on the northwest corner of 17th and emerson.

DAM is a fun time. You could also try the new museum of contemporary art on 15th and delgany. I haven't been there yet myself.

You should go up to the mountains or something! Did you know it snowed here yesterday morning? It was bizarre. It's usually warmer this time of year.

homosexual II, Sunday, 27 April 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)

or for something sort of surreal and gross try casa bonita

there's a good used record/book store out in wheatridge called black and read that I love

Not very interesting to look at, but some good finds.

I’m going to denver this weekend! Anything of note going on re: music, film, art? Chill places to hang out? Parks to run in? Food?
