Extra Dark Pretzels THE POLL

What are the best Extra Dark pretzels? Apologies if you don't live in the Mid-Atlantic states, or if you do and just happen to have no good grocery stores, or just don't give a shit about the best kind of pretzel ever. Please bear in mind these poll options are specifically about the EXTRA DARK varieties from the below bakeries, not whatever other mess they might get up to (Unique in particular - sprouted multigrain wtf).

haha this is tough. Utz is always around and always good. I had to look up some of these. "Uncle Jerry's" and "Hammond's" are right down the street and I have no idea what their extra dark even tastes like! My snack game is super weak! I have a grocery store trip between now and when the poll closes so I'll delay my vote until then.

Hammond's dark were good, which was no surprise. They come in smaller bags and my fiance and I finished one in a weekend

Unique splits are great, made near my mom's hometown in eastern Pennsylvania - pretzel country. used to order em by the box but stopped cause they're way expensive. snacks should be cheap!

Yes that is why good cheese costs $28 a pound

I'm guessing Uniques are going to take this because they're the easiest to find and are, in fact, quite good. Still going to root for Uncle Jerry's though since that was my introduction to the Extra Dark world and remain the loudest and crunchiest imho. Try watching teevee while eating them. You gotta have the closed captioning on.

where do you get Uncle Jerry's?

There's a mom and pop grocery around the corner called STREETS that carries them. Used to also stock them at the nearby Whole Foods and later at this other boutique grocery around the other corner (where you can get Martin's and Hammond's).

nine months pass...

This poll was pathetically inconclusive.

Unique Pretzels was named "Snack Producer of the Year 2016," which should probably function as the tiebreaker imo

Can we take a moment to appreciate how much salt went into this tableau

The place that carried Martin’s and Hammonds ended up going out of business hard: https://www.popville.com/2017/08/dagger-smucker-farms-closing-14th-street/

I feel that I must hijack this thread to commend Sunshine for introducing Extra Toasty Cheez-Its last year.

(But they could be a bit toastier if you ask me.)

what constitutes this toastiness

Expeditions this weekend revealed that Uncle Jerry’s extra dark are becoming highly difficult to find, btw

missed, or don't recall thread. recently had the good fortune to be able to try Unique and Uncle Jerry's. i think the only brands i've ever encountered are Snyder's and Rolled Gold. While the former are decent, both have now been forever ruined. Unique Splits are fantastic. A perfect pretz. Like, Tom stated upthread, Uncle Jerry has the edge on crispiness, crunch and is a bit darker. Both are perfectly salted imho. Unable/unwilling to pick one over the other.
