Favorite Water Bodies

I think a lot about my favorite bodies of water. I think often of bodies of water I'd rather not go near. I think a lot about bodies of water.

I imagine myself floating on the Dead Sea.
I imagine myself living on the coast of the Hudson Bay (my favorite body of water).
I imagine myself swimming in the Great African Lakes.

I would only be lucky to visit any of these places, but, I still imagine myself standing upon the shore of each -- of each water body I fantasize about.

And, hell. The Baltic Sea seems like a party to me!

The Mediterranean is quite overrated.

I want to stand upon these shores. I want to drink the water. I want to experience these waters. So many waters.

The White Sea has excellent jellyfish. I am going with that.

As a child, when I was semi-functional I think, I lived on the Gulf of Taranto, like right by the beach. Every morning I'd swim out to the line of buoys across our cove and back.
And my happiest adult days were spent in a caravan right beside whatever bay or whatever it is that Orust and Tjörn are in. The sun shone every day and we'd lay about on rafts and such.
Really my best memories are all water-adjacent. In recent years I just hang around Montrose Basin and Montrose beach and Montrose harbour in the grey and the wind, gazing desolately out to sea along with the William Lamb sculptures. I lived in Stonehaven for a while, the most notable thing about the sea there (which would be the North Sea) was the haar, if you were up by the main road above the town you could watch it roll in across the sea in thick pillows, filling the bay up til you couldn't see the town at all.
I have always lived by one sea or other, I couldn't really imagine it any other way.

Oh, also the Firth of Forth. I spent one summer working on the road bridge renovation (aye, the previous one before it broke, I take no responsibility). I would spend my days up on the bridge and then I was staying with a couple of boys in a flat right on the harbour in South Queensferry. I must have spent many hours gazing out over the water when I should've been working, mainly looking at the Rail Bridge, which is a beautiful piece of engineering. I was glad I wasn't working on the Rail Bridge, cos then I'd have to spend my days looking at the ugly road bridge. Or, y'know, do some actual work.

Waimea Bay in Hawaii, of course

For nearby places I can afford to go to, Falling Branch in Harford County, MD is a nice, little-known swimming hole with all the requisites - a big waterfall you can jump from, pristine water, a wading area, a great view.
