i used to be a sabra person but cedar's completely overhauled their recipe a few years ago and now it's my favorite

Laertiades (imago), Friday, 11 March 2016 15:50 (eight years ago) link

do you guys have mass market hummus in the uk

Treeship, Friday, 11 March 2016 16:15 (eight years ago) link

xp Tuomas, Yorgo's was disqualified because they spell it "Hommus"

Treeship, Friday, 11 March 2016 16:16 (eight years ago) link

Sabra is available in the UK but that description makes me think it's quite different from the stuff you have. I'm okay with mass market hummus but really you gotta go to Turkish areas (e.g. Green Lanes in London) if you want decent stuff.

mmmm, Friday, 11 March 2016 17:02 (eight years ago) link

Why did you put red onion in "quotes"?

how's life, Friday, 11 March 2016 17:07 (eight years ago) link

it is white when you cut into it who is 'red onion' fooling?

i want us to use that photo as inspiration to give quality advice about mass produced hummus. someone someday will be in that woman's predicament and refer to this thread.

this thread is fine. stop it, all of you

Treeship, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 03:19 (eight years ago) link

The best packaged hummus I've had is actually Hannah. Tribe, Cedar's and Sabra are all pretty meh, haven't had the others.

All these hummuses are prob fine, if you just start with low expectations.

if anyone's tried yorgo's -- the winner of the contest -- you are free to write it in

Treeship, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 03:32 (eight years ago) link

Ultimately hummus is only really really good when it's fresh imo. All of these that I've had are edible and fine, Hannah is the best of the bunch.

My complaint wasnt that theyre poor qual, its that not all of us have eaten US brand hommus!

Not that I'd subject anyone to Black Swan or Coles brand dip.

no, i understand. it's hard though with processed food polls, they tend to be nationally or regionally specific.

make sure to vote in this poll as well. Beer

have you had the graphic design flavour hummus. it is v bad

bloat laureate (schlump), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 06:07 (eight years ago) link

i don't understand this obsession with all these different hummus flavors. you can add sriracha on top of the hummus if you really want it that badly.

Treeship, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 06:33 (eight years ago) link

just add peanuts to that butter

you can consume wild garden hummus dip while walking, driving, even texting if you balance it skillfully underneath your chin. i didn't include it in the original poll bc i was afraid it would run away with it due to the convenience factor

http://www.lawyerherald.com/articles/5646/20140526/hummus-lawsuit-tackles-standards-of-identity-in-food-products.htm

while I have enjoyed black bean/lentil/carrot/white bean hummuses, I agree with Sabra's reasoning (if not their litigiousness): the word 'hummus' literally translates to 'chickpeas', and it's deceptive to market a sandwich spread as a hummus if it doesn't even contain the one essential ingredient. but I guess 'black bean spread' and 'black bean tahini' don't have the same marketability..
