i watched the short clip franco made for his proposed film of this a few months ago and it was incredibly tedious, pretty much nothing of the book's flavor came across
maybe james franco should just quit doing anything for a while

I was hoping Cormac McCarthy would write the screenplay. The last time he did that was... interesting

I thought someone had already made this adaptation? or was that All the Pretty Horses
I wonder which old "respectable" actor will smash a baby's head open on a rock
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 5 May 2016 20:40 (nine years ago)
Franco should do it as a one man show.

OK, finally read this. Why would anyone want this filmed? The beauty of this book is the language of the book itself— it’s incredible. Fuck, if you’re illiterate, dinsey+ has a load of star wars shit for you. Or quentin tarantino. Listen to this ebook, whatever, it’s the words and sentences themselves in this book that work here, not the story or the plot. Damn gorgeous. I have issues with other stuff about it, but I think I see what shines?

I just listened to this as an audiobook, it is incredibly violent and desolate but also beautiful. I didn't grasp all of it in one listen, though
― Dan S, Friday, 25 August 2023 01:13 (one year ago)
i think it could make a good movie. not sure how well the extreme levels of genocidal violence will go over with contemporary audiences. feel like even sam peckinpah would find it a bit too much. not a huge fan of cormac mccarthy's writing style
― flopson, Friday, 25 August 2023 04:01 (one year ago)
Nothing done by Franco will make a good movie, no matter what the source.

it's now being directed by the same guy who did the road

needs the same guy who did fury road tbh

haven't seen the road, don't know what to expect - i'm just glad they prised franco's grubby little hands off it
― tremolo, Friday, 25 August 2023 12:56 (one year ago)
I have prob spent five to ten hours of my life thinking intently about how I would film the ending tbh

I never watched Franco's Faulkner adaptations (as I lay dying and the sound and the fury); anyone else subject themselves to these?
― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Friday, 25 August 2023 13:28 (one year ago)
Also, the opening battle sequence of The Revenant convinced me that Blood Meridian could be filmed
Definitely there’d have to be a lot of off-screen grotesquery, the tree-o-babies for example should be reaction shots only otherwise it’ll just be funny rather than horrific

huh, i think i would be interested to see a quality anime of this-- had not even considered that.

You mean the judge in the saloon, as opposed to the epilogue with the post holes? After spotting the revive this morning I found myself meditating on that very subject for quite a while. It needs to be framed very, very carefully for the screen as the potential for bathos is high.
― Vast Halo, Friday, 25 August 2023 13:42 (one year ago)
Robert Eggers could probably do a good Blood Meridian film. It shouldn’t be a film, why do you need it when the book’s so vivid, but if I had to pick I think he’d get it better than most .
