Huh! I assumed it would be on the CW.

Nah, CBS is going all in to build their own private Hulu, and this show is going to be anchor for it.

I've thought for a while that taking the "Far Beyond the Stars" conceit as real would've been amazing, though not exactly sustainable on a series-wide basis (i.e. that would've been a much better DS9 finale than what we got).

Hmm, well Paramount will probably sell the Trek to Disney once they are finally able to admit to themselves the glaringly-obvious fact that they're embarrassed to own the property, and I'm pretty sure ALF is a Muppet, so I think this has legs.

season 3 of fringe was pretty good. then kurtzman & orci demanded a dumb cliffhanger and the show never recovered.

Trek has always had a mix of inspired weirdos and hacks, I feel like it benefits from that.

Fuller's working on at least two other tv series, including American Gods. If the Paramount people kept meddling and were an irritating presence, it'd be a good reason to bail.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood: CBS is only airing the first half of the two hour pilot on actual TV. Fun idea.

If they streamed it only on the CBS app but allowed digital purchases on amazon, itunes, etc. it'd make more sense. but, afaik, they are making it only available on the CBS app

so irritating, I'd shell out for the entire season purchase even if it trickles out a week at a time as per usual

i'll probably wait until next year and stream the whole season then. or find "other ways" that will appear soon, i'm sure

yeah i mean i know game of thrones seems to do ok and all but i'm not sure why directly adopting a piracy-based business model is cbs's schtick here

anyway when the streaming service fails they'll probably just toss it to another streaming service. doesn't necessarily doom the show.

Supposedly had they done a season six, it would have used that short as the basis for its plot. Of course when you realize you only have the time and budget to film a 20 minute summation of the series, that may be the time to leave that plot idea behind.

Yeah it was only sheer chance I've been finally watching Enterprise so the reveal was really relevant and an OMG moment for me. I'll be honest, I'm enjoying ENT way more than I thought I would!

I'd usually agree with the sentiment that this kind of ridiculous fussiness is unnecessary but c'mon this is the series whose central premise is the main character is SPOCK'S SISTER ARMIN TAMZARIAN WHOM WE WILL NEVER SPEAK OF AGAIN BECAUSE CONTINUITY -- pointless convoluted callbacks is 90% of the show!

Yeah I did find myself thinking "what has happened to her Vulcanness?". Am I right in recalling she was very stiff and Vulcan in her demenour in S1 cos of how she was brought up? All that just went out the window eventually. I honestly wonder why they even had that storyline - it didnt really add/enhance anything canon.

Vulcan sisterhood was ridic contrived but I was ultimately fine with it as a pretext to bring Spock into the show - the Spock era of Disco is probably my favourite bit

and would cheerfully argue there is quite a difference between referencing Short Treks and referencing universally-recognised Trek icon ACTUAL SPOCK

This season did have some really nice visuals, and I did like Callum Keith Rennie's character, even if they did waste him for several episodes with pointless drama; just put a headstrong, no-nonsense guy on the bridge and let him interact with everyone. And uh... I think I'll leave it at that.

Too bad Detmer and Owo were absent for most of the season. Not that they would have stopped it from sucking in general, of course!

And boy, at least one director on this is really fond of cameras flying around the place and slow motion action sequences, aren't they?

- Did not learn a THING about Section 31 as an organization.
- So much pointless exposition. Yes, its clear what just happened why are you now spending 5 minutes rehashing it for the audience?

I appreciate the fact that they delivered us an incredibly undercooked series in 95 minutes instead of stretching it into 6 - 8 episodes. Do I need 2/3rds of an episode to delve into the mech man’s body dysmorphia? No. Would some exposition have helped in spots in order to make me give a shit about some of the characters? Probably!
Would I have watched a 6 - 8 episode version that was just as bad and spent my life doing that instead of something else? Likely.

So now we have a new answer for "what is the worst Star Trek movie ever?" I'm bummed because whatever we were collectively imagining as "Michelle Yeoh leads Star Fleet's CIA" is just so embarrassingly shitty. This is what Marvel folks put up with now? Jesus christ...

I've had very little desire to watch this based on the trailer. The fact that it's directed by the constantly-spinning-camera guy from Discovery doesn't help either. And I watched through all the TOS movies in the past two weeks, which puts me in even less of a mood for NuTrek...this thread seals the deal.

a) kacey rohl deserved better
b) her character, rachel garrett, who would ultimately captain the enterprise-c, deserved exponentially better than 'learning to appreciate chaos'
c) the dudes from 'let that be your last battlefield' were supposed to be both extremely powerful and also the last of their kind; why would you make one of them a maître d'?

I actually enjoyed how aggressively garbage this was -- there's a weirdly pro-military / anti-utopian segment of the trek fanbase that really loves the idea that the federation can't cope without a morally bankrupt black-ops service, and I'd argue this is truly the ultimate expression of that line of thinking.

And look, I'd be perfectly OK with that kind of storyline! They did that for a whole season of Babylon 5, as an example (Earth prez corrupt, sets up his own Orwellian propaganda arm, has blackshirts etc etc). They could have made a GREAT film about S31's methodology, problematic actions, struggles with/against the Federation.
