All the TV is on Hulu, all the movies are on Fandor. I have no idea why Netflix streaming is so popular still.

HI DERE. I just got this but can’t quite figure out what’s on it and don’t like the interface that much.

For instance, could have sworn I found Ran the other day, but now it’s gone missing. Assuming it expired, although there was no notification. I much prefer the MUBI experience.

Filmstruck has 25 Kurosawa films at the moment, but not Ran.

A lot of libraries are offering patrons free access to Kanopy which has a lot of criterion movies:
https://www.kanopystreaming.com/category/tags/criterion-collection

It's totally baffling and I get the feeling eventually libraries are going to dump all their media and just subsidize Netflix and Spotify.

Philip Nunez, Friday, 5 January 2018 22:15 (eight years ago)

The old Criterion Kurosawa sets didn't have Ran either, rights are with a major American studio IIRC

The last time I checked Kanopy they had only one Lubitsch and no Von Sternbergs. Although I do note that they have two Tatis I want to see. I assume it's a matter of different rightsholders making different arrangements?

XP Ran is with Studio Canal, who have a shitty deal with Lionsgate handling US licensing.

So then slightly kicking myself for not watching it during that brief Indian summer when it was on Fandor. https://www.google.com/amp/variety.com/2017/digital/news/fandor-lionsgate-mgm-russell-burke-cfo-1202549903/amp/

Kanopy's adding every Fred Wiseman doc ever?

Fandor has some disconcerting announcement as of 12/7/2018.

Maybe I should have posted on the FilmStruck thread.

I don't think their library has updated in like six months or more. They're looking for a buyer though, so there's still some hope.
