I keep seeing ads for these "customized dress shirt" companies. One claims to offer "over 75 sizes," and I was just thinking -- any dress shirt nowadays is usually offered in a neck size, sleeve size, and a "fit," with many companies offering three different fits (some version of regular, trim and extra trim). So if you have, say, 7 different neck sizes, 3 different fits, and 3-4 different sleeve lengths, that's about 75 sizes right there.

If I could walk in to most stores and find a shirt I like that fits well, I'd be pleasantly amazed. I have a skinny neck, long arms and torso. This equates to a Large Tall most places, but they're out of stock, or never had them to begin with, more often than not.

The thing is these are $75-125 dress shirts. For that price you are certainly not looking at dress shirts that come in "S M L" -- they will come in a neck size (e.g. 15.5, 16, 16.5), a sleeve length (32, 33, 34 etc.) and a "cut" (some variation on extra slim, slim, and classic/regular). Maybe for very tall guys this still isn't adequate, but I'm pretty sure most people can already find dress shirts that fit pretty well for less money than these "custom" companies are charging, and they're not even really custom from what I can tell (i.e. a tailor making a shirt exactly to measure just for you). There's a reason they're called "fitted dress shirts."

two weeks pass...

I tried this new flower service called UrbanStems -- they offered a $15/off code, so it looked like I'd be able to send what was a very nice bouquet for $30 (normally $45) including delivery (free delivery). Then the delivery was late and they didn't communicate with me, but when I emailed tbf they responded quickly and fixed it and then the flowers showed up, and they even gave me a $15 credit.

So then I saw the actual flowers and I thought they were pretty meh for a normal retail price of $45, like the last place I ordered from, a fancy boutique in Long Island City, sends a VERY nice bouquet for about $50. So I got an email asking me for feedback, and I was honest that I just didn't think the quality was good for what would normally be $45, and I got a message back saying "we're going to send a free bouquet that will really blow her away." So it arrived today, and it was just some roses, and I know roses can be expensive but I thought p much everyone agreed these days that roses were boring. Anyway I have another $15 credit there and maybe I'll use it.

Anyway, not really clear on what their concept is other than just being a flower delivery company. They vaguely try to give the impression that technology and cutting out middlemen somehow makes them different but it's not really clear what the difference is between them and any florist or flower delivery service.

Roses are boring. Send a corpse flower next time, cheapskate.

I do admire them for the tacit admission that if you buy this, you're also likely to be the kind of dickhead who owns an Apple Pencil.

I got those slippers for Christmas. They are really nice, comfortable slippers, but the extra sole for outdoors is a FAFF to put on. You have to take the slippers off to clip it on, and if you're taking them off anyway, you can just swap your shoes.

But they are really nice slippers.
