We have already done Alcopops CoD, I refer you to the archives.

Emma, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, but I had nothing to do with that thread so it's like it didn't exist.

Anyhow, I'd also like to expand this to talk about the Kahlua ready mades and the Smirnoff ready mades I was speaking of on the BBQ thread anyhow, despite their lack of fruity carbonation.

Ally, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma, have become me? Or are you just looking for a cheap way to aggravate Ally?

Nick, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

have become me? = have you become me?

There's this Belgian beer called Framb(something) that's just amazing. Raspberry is my favorite. It's about $6 a bottle, though.

Anal retentiveness is very contagious.

Emma, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fruity beers = largely dud, fruity alcopops = OK for one bottle then vom inducing. Unless Smirnoff Ice, which I will drink until my lips get stuck to my teeth with all the sugar.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmm, this is intriguing. How long have Smirnoff Ices (I guess) and maybe even Mules been knocking around the States. I would imagine having seen their phenomenal success in the UK the brand would be nuts for 'em.

And as for fruity beers - Framboise or Kreik (the cherry one like all cherry drinks being fantastic) are ace and three quid guv, quick as you like in Hogsheads in London.

What is mixed with Kahlua?

Pete, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kahlua has a whole range of pre-made drinks in 6-pack bottles at the supermarket! It's like god heard my prayers and answered them in handy carrying form. They have White Russians, Black Russians, Mudslides, Toasted Almonds (and the variant COCONUT TOASTED ALMONDS), B-52s...I mean there's like 10 different kinds. They only cost like $6.99 too.

My next party is going to have nothing but Smirnoff Ice and Kahlua variety packs. And Goldschlager.

Ally, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nudie, do you mean Framboise/Framboos? Belgian beer is CLASSIC. The rest is dud. ;-)

nathalie, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

YES, yes! Pete mentioned it, too! It's delicious. Now that I'm thinking about it, I guess I'll have to go get some on my way home. It's so good, it can practically TURN you into an alcoholic (if you aren't already) because you just can't resist.

Nude Spock, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kaluha and orange juice is a really fun combo. Kaluha seems much more popular in the US than it is here. How many UK people have invested regularly in bottles of Kaluha? Much more popular is the GIN.

Sarah, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah the late, lamented Gin Zing. Any takers on this fantastic refresher?

Pete, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kahlua is a drink of the heavens, when it rains it should rain Kahlua, except that'd be messy. It does seem well more popular in the US.

If only they'd make premixed tequila drinks. I should get on that. Too bad I didn't get that job with Seagram's, I could be in an office thinking of new premixed drinks to sell, instead of being online fucking around because my bosses are off.

Ally, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete, correction: it is Kriek (Flemish for cherry).

michael jackson, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Boones, Hooch, Bartles & Jaymes, etc. = junior high nostalgia = classic in some perverse way.

Kris, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"premixed tequila drink" = Tequiza!! has anyone actually had this beer + tequila abomination?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sounds better than what we have here: Jupiler beer mixed with either coke or lemonade. Pukah!

nathalie, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

YES TRACER. Not that particular brand.

This is what I was getting at on pub/bar thread re. rottenness of Europubs. Went into "Charley's Pub" in Divonne, to kill time/shelter from rain. Anything on tap? Ah yes, 'Desperados', looking like a crappy lager but a lager nonetheless. Of course it was beer+tequila and tasted like a special cough medicine that would give you a cough instead of cure it.

Tom, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ooh yes - Desparados. Vair popular in France. No idea why, no. Truly foul.

Nick, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The piteous thing about all these drinking threads is that nobody expounds on the joys of drinking straight-up alcohol unencumbered by all this fruit juice and hops nonsense.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"premixed tequila drink" = Tequiza!! has anyone actually had this beer + tequila abomination?

If you ever call Tequiza a "premixed tequila drink" again, dear sir, I will come to your house - I do know where you currently live, boy - and hurt you myself.

Straight up alcohol is great, Ned, it goes without saying.

Ally, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I bow to your wisdom. And to your liver, which must be trembling with joy at that thought.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I spit in my own liver's face. Ha, take that, liver, you think you're better than me? You got another thing coming!

Ally, Thursday, 16 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yuk! I hatehatehatehate anything fizzy.

'Cept Red Bull.
