if you had the money to move anywhere in the world: would you move? where would you go?

curious.

if there is already a thread like this lemme know. this is just fantasy stuff. you have enough money to just live somewhere and do whatever you want. and this is not election-based.

i'm thinking if my parents kick the bucket and the kids are out of the house...montreal. good food and good record stores. all i need really. and still close enough to go to other funerals when i need to. so, i wouldn't go tomorrow. but i would totally go. it'd be fun!

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:21 (eight years ago)

i've never actually been to montreal...i just read about it.

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:21 (eight years ago)

when i was younger i used to dream of new zealand, but too far...

maria would be happy with holland. i would probably be happy with holland.

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:22 (eight years ago)

def New Zealand

but I love California so much, I don't think I could ever leave honestly

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:23 (eight years ago)

wait, california...

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:25 (eight years ago)

I've been to Montreal briefly and that was long enough for me, I think I was in a bad part of town though.

brimstead, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:34 (eight years ago)

northern new england, or maybe central canada or the upper midwest. somewhere cold, landlocked, and out of the way

ciderpress, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:38 (eight years ago)

When I'm dreaming about remoteness, it's some place like Haida Gwaii. But I'd also like to live in Paris.

jmm, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 19:38 (eight years ago)

no desire to live anywhere other than denver, xp

Overseas, I like the idea of Ireland, Scotland or the Netherlands. In the States, Oregon. Just get me the fuck out of the Bible Belt, please.

aaaaaaaauuuuuuuuu (melting robot) (WilliamC), Tuesday, 8 November 2016 20:37 (eight years ago)

i think i'd have a few places i could hop around throughout the year

i think my home base would be here in cleveland, honestly. i love this city, it's home.

i think i'd have little craftsman bungalows in some western cities. LA prob, denver, portland or seattle. austin maybe.

a little studio in NY.

an old house w/ large second-floor porches in savannah or charleston.

maybe something on the mediterranean coast, spain prob.

something in mexico. oaxaca maybe. maybe something in lima, peru.

that's all.

Lisbon

I'd love to live in India - and I can pay for it too, but what I want is a job in India, I think you need that to establish a life, right? Or do I have infinite resources in this fantasy so I won't have to work ever?

niels, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 20:47 (eight years ago)

I dreamt of living in Montreal from age 13. Got to do it in my early 20s. Arty & soulful, but hard to make a living if you're not fluent in French.

dinnerboat, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 20:48 (eight years ago)

Seattle, colorado, or possibly Berlin

I'd have a nice house on the hill in DULUTH, THE AIR CONDITIONED CITY.

Probably keep an apartment in Chicago, too.

"Or do I have infinite resources in this fantasy so I won't have to work ever?"

it's your fantasy. you can have whatever you want.

i just meant it to be a "if money was no object" kinda thing.

i mean the main reason why i have never traveled far from new england is lack of money. and i never had the kinda too good to pass up opportunity that would have made money not matter.

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 21:15 (eight years ago)

i know for a fact i could never live in India. anywhere too hot is off my list.

wherever the castle is that i would buy, probably somewhere in northern Europe.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 8 November 2016 21:19 (eight years ago)

if i could go anywhere in california i would buy a place in the woods in Ojai. that way i could still go record shopping in LA but not have to live in LA.

I am deep-dyed Oregonian, so I would never move all that far, regardless of money. But, my fantasy place to live would be somewhere near Enterprise, Oregon. This won't happen, mainly because it would require relocating my daughter, too, and there would not be sufficient services for her there.

marcos, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 21:34 (eight years ago)

woods in ojai look preeeetty sweet - it's kinda the Neil Young way?

I'd perhaps be afraid of wild animals tho...

niels, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 21:39 (eight years ago)

Assuming unlimited resources, I'd have a place in Portland and a remote place on Lake Superior in the Keweenaw peninsula of Upper Michigan and split my time between with a healthy amount of travel in between.

I have family in both of these places so I know them well and visit regularly but it isn't practical to live in either right now.
