who was the guy with the 'comedy' glasses who was curly's boss. Reg somebody?

pandemic, Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:29 (eight years ago)

Reg Holdsworth, played by Ken Morley. Last seen getting kicked off Celebrity Big Brother in 2015 after making racist comments to Alexander O'Neal.

can't believe Percy Sugden lost out to half of the characters on here. Gail should be on there as well.

soref, Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:33 (eight years ago)

No Les Battersby?

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:39 (eight years ago)

I hate Simon Barlow so much. this survey is from 2010, but I'm pretty sure he was terrible then as well.

soref, Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:43 (eight years ago)

No Schmeichel no credibility.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:50 (eight years ago)

Karen McDonald easy. Her and Steve were amazing together.

nate woolls, Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:52 (eight years ago)

the guy who played Terry Duckworth can't even go out for a Chinese in Southport without getting papped, apparently: http://www.southport.gb.com/southport/news_list/Nigel_Pivaro_(Terry_Duckworth)_visits_Southport-50412267.htm

I miss the "unconvincing soap punches" bit from Viz

i realised i don't feel very warmly to most Corrie characters but i think my initial gut reaction here is Raquel

"can't believe Percy Sugden lost out to half of the characters on here"

Classic soap character, and sometimes surprisingly humanistic when he broke from shrill old reactionary shell.

calzino, Saturday, 19 November 2016 23:34 (eight years ago)

Tricia Armstrong>>Sally Webster

Although I am biased as Tracy Brabin who played her is currently a local MP.

calzino, Saturday, 19 November 2016 23:58 (eight years ago)

Never a Corrie fan but I do know that Blanche as #1 here is a joke

ewar woowar (or something), Sunday, 20 November 2016 00:21 (eight years ago)

Yeah but she was very funny at being nasty and dishing out withering putdowns, probably not a joke.

calzino, Sunday, 20 November 2016 00:39 (eight years ago)

Hilda or Stan

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 20 November 2016 02:07 (eight years ago)

toss up between Carla, Becky and Leanne for me. Why is Sophie so high and where are Gail, Eileen and Hayley?

boxedjoy, Sunday, 20 November 2016 10:29 (eight years ago)

oh wait Hayley and Eileen are there, never mind

boxedjoy, Sunday, 20 November 2016 10:31 (eight years ago)

Amazing, given how front-and-centre she is being positioned these days, that Michelle Connor doesn't make the list.

ailsa, Sunday, 20 November 2016 11:05 (eight years ago)

Write-in vote for Tim Metcalfe, btw

ailsa, Sunday, 20 November 2016 11:07 (eight years ago)

Sally Webster probably.

I did once see Eileen in the street in London and in my surprise stopped to say 'hello', and then thought 'what the hell am I doing?' She didn't seem to mind and chatted for a few moments.

Dr Drudge (Bob Six), Sunday, 20 November 2016 11:07 (eight years ago)

hate Sally W but nowhere near as much as Kevin so maybe i shd cut her some slack

I've always loved Rita. Glamorous, independent, business-minded, talented, kind, funny, supportive, and vicious.

Blanche hijacks Peter Barlow's AA meeting.

calzino, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 14:53 (eight years ago)

btw, I suspect Sophie is very high because I noticed Sian Powers in the list as well so it was probably right at the height of Sophie coming out to her parents, which was probably the last good storyline Sophie had.

I think I might have been tempted to vote for Todd Grimshaw if he'd been in the list.

ailsa, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 15:49 (eight years ago)

It's Hilda or Elsie Tanner but I love so many of these women. Racquel, Audrey, Mavis, Blanche, Betty, Dierdre, Becky. Ivy should be on this list. I'm surprised that Vera is at number 2.

I only see this now when I'm visiting my mum. Sally and Gail didn't used to be written on purely comic terms but are now, it seems.

Becky: Eh, Roy, d'you know what I don't get?
Roy: The London Review of Books?

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 18:25 (eight years ago)

this new producer they've got - the one who seems to have turned Emmerdale right around - seems to be doing some good salvation work lately. There is a massive amount of deadwood but I think Jenny and Eva could become classic characters.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 18:33 (eight years ago)

I watch Emmerdale fairly frequently. Maybe twice a week. It's dropped off a bit but it was really good for a while a couple of years back. It was leagues ahead of Corrie.

Never had much time for Deirdre tbh. Or Audrey. I forgot about Becky, she was great. I only see this when I visiting your my mum too.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 18:40 (eight years ago)

Audrey's not top tier, loves a bit of a strong word, to put it mildly. I'm mainly in awe of the fact that she's looked the same for the last 30 years.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 22:47 (eight years ago)

Was bouncing between Elsie, Raquel and Hilda, but then went for Stan.

woof, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 22:55 (eight years ago)

write in for spider

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 22:58 (eight years ago)

Agree that Eva and Jenny could and should be classic but they seem to have turned Eva into a weird clingy bimbo in inappropriately glamorous clothing for a factory worker, which is a shame because she's hilarious and shouldn't have to just be girlfriend eye-candy. Love Jenny.

Also surprised Tina wasn't on this list. She was great before the whole Peter affair/murder thing, which also ruined Rob Donovan who had massive potential as well. List also pre-dates Kylie Platt, who was another in the never-ending line of rough-diamonds-turned-likeable female characters (which they are now trying to do with Gemma).

ailsa, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 23:31 (eight years ago)

Kylie could have been great if she hadn't been saddled with David Platt.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 23:34 (eight years ago)

david platt is satan

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 23:36 (eight years ago)

I'm surprised Cilla isn't on there, not that I was much of a fan. Tina was great initially.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Between Hilda and Elsie I went for Elsie, assuming that Hilda will win.
