"Life comes at you fast"

This phrase went viral fast. For me, I think I heard it first in December? About my kid about to be 6 in the blink of an eye, from a relative stranger. Now it's everywhere. Are memes like these about to start spreading as quickly (and dying off commensurately) with the last of the Gen X set

THANKS IPHONE

Anyway,

First time you heard it, used it, hen will this phrase die, do we even care where it came from, shall it be translated into Latin so it become the new motto for NATO after WW3, etc

it's from Ferris Bueller's Day Off isn't it? don't know when it became a meme though

I actually thought it was but i re-screened Ferris Beuller's Day Off last night and the quote is:

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

but this is apparently it:

About
Life Comes At You Fast is a phrase popularly used on Twitter to caption unfortunate events either written or illustrated in photos and gifs.
Origin
The phrase “Life Comes At You Fast” was popularized in 2004 by American insurance company Nationwide when they launched the “life comes at you fast” ad campaign.[1] The campaign humorously demonstrated how quickly things could go wrong in life to demonstrate why their insurance was necessary.

Now it seems like my cohort are using it to admit to each other that we forgot how old each other's kids are.

(was this thread inspired by me posting this phrade in the scottish independence thread btw)

insurance companies even worse than Bueller!

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Monday, 13 March 2017 18:01 (eight years ago)

The Ferris Bueller version is smarmy bullshit, as is almost everything about the film, CHECK IT OUT NOW, TOMBOT AGREEING W MORBIUS, RIGHT ABOUT NOW, ETC. because the implication that you can just pause, reflect on a moment, and crystallize that moment in any way that's healthy or useful to the next decade plus of your existence, other than perhaps a teachable example to some young person who accidentally ends up trusting you, is profoundly stupid and likely to result in either chronic depression or voting for fascists or both.

Line works great in the context of "1-800-SUICIDE"

I'm proud that I can now identify a Morbs post before I read his name.

That one Bauhaus song on the soundtrack is still pretty great

El Tomboto, Monday, 13 March 2017 20:08 (eight years ago)

I never would've figured they had an 'Oh Yeah' in them but it was a pleasant surprise.
