BORDERTOWN: more deadly finns and their procedurals (includes russians, generally even deadlier)

it's on netlix: it's about cops and crims in finland and russia, and also the teenage daughters of cops and their difficult relationships with their weird dads and scary moms

i said on the ROBA thread that it's much more "the bridge" than "the bill" (themetune esp. is a bridge rip, tho it's a woman not a man singing)

Ville Virtanen is Det Insp Kari Sorjonen (in Finnish it's called SORJONEN): he's all curious "gifted" instinct and at an angle to routine policework (and his family)
Anu Sinisalo is Det Const Lena Jaakkola -- she's in the Russian FBS and has a erm unconstrained attitude to the legal protocols

stories are abt russian crimworld incursion into a smallish finnish town (lappeenranta), but also the two daughters (lena's katia, kari's janina) on the BORDERTOWN (do you see) of adulthood, exploring sex and drugs and limits

it's very watchable, a wee bit arty, somewhat perverse -- viz one ep abt illegal dogfighting, except (a) the dgos had rabies and (b) they were fighting sexy ladies (tho given this subject matter it was quite unpruriently filmed)

I like the sound of that, and season2 of the Norwegian series Okkupert seems to be taking forever.

the interiors are quietly abuzz with scando modernist design (except when they're dank cellars w/eg sex slaves in them)

the policestation is even more roomily vast and lit-to-be-moody* than the one in CSI:NYC (it is the opposite of ROBA in this respect)

*it's like an underground villain's lair

(also the tech they use is sometimes a bit CSI)

I'm only two episodes in, and it's good to hear that Lena sticks around. For some weird reason, when she first appeared I thought she was played by the same actress that was Roz Myers in Spooks/MI-5

one year passes...

i'm way into S2, which is bittier and (sadly) seems to be downplaying lena somewhat
