Sadly, voiceover only, so no hair, yet.

oh they have hair

your cognitive privilege (El Tomboto), Saturday, 6 May 2017 02:12 (eight years ago)

Do they ever.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 6 May 2017 02:16 (eight years ago)

Ramsey Bolton (Iwan Rheon) as Maximus is pretty inspired, he pretty much can play the same character.

Beyond Medusa's hair, you also got Lockjaw to pull off on screen. If they get Lockjaw right, people will love it just as much as Groot or Rocket Racoon.

I don't know how it will really play out all that without the Fantastic Four and it being on TV, you can't use Thor or the Avengers.

earlnash, Saturday, 6 May 2017 02:22 (eight years ago)

Lockjaw's relative size confirmed at least

Seeing that picture of Medusa was the most disheartening MCU-related thing I've experienced. And I watched all of Iron Fist.

Download this Man With Hamburder And Mug (Old Lunch), Monday, 15 May 2017 13:40 (eight years ago)

the first in-costume reveals for live-action superhero stuff always looks terrible but yeah medusa looks distinctly off

no forehead-mounted tuning fork for black bolt either! sacrilege!

The Patricia Routledge Meatspin Gif Has Made You Gay (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 15 May 2017 13:44 (eight years ago)

Eh, they hardly ever seem to go for the headgear in live action stuff (or soon abandon it a la Captain America) so I wasn't really expecting to see the full Blackagar. I was, however, hoping Marvel would've done more for Medusa than have a PA run to a Halloween pop-up store for a shitty red rayon wig.

So have a trailer

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 29 June 2017 13:20 (eight years ago)

Lockjaw looks great. There's a nice shot of Maximus on a the throne at about 1:30 that looks kinda like the classic Black Bolt costume. Apart from that... meh.

Mud... Jam... Failure... (aldo), Thursday, 29 June 2017 13:58 (eight years ago)

Lockjaw = awesome, Black Bolt destroying a police car with barely a whisper = also awesome. Medusa's hair = still not awesome.

Old Lynch's Sex Paragraph (Phil D.), Thursday, 29 June 2017 14:14 (eight years ago)

I have to say, having everything seem pretty horrible other than a giant animated teleporting dog is some sort of accomplishment

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 14:19 (eight years ago)

Iwan Rheon in no danger of becoming typecast then.

chap, Thursday, 29 June 2017 14:46 (eight years ago)

Has there been any official statement on why they downgraded this from its initial feature film status? It's so weird because you would assume they had at least some loose idea of how the story of the Inhuman royal family was going to tie into the larger MCU, but by relegating it to TV rather than dropping it altogether they've consigned it to an increasingly-disconnected ghetto where it'll almost certainly have no connection to what's happening in the movies. I hope it does at least tie in with Agents of SHIELD on some explicit level.

Duane Quarterdump (Old Lunch), Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:08 (eight years ago)

it's in the tv universe, not the film universe. they're technically the same, but in all actuality, one just hangs off of the other

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:16 (eight years ago)

as far as I can tell it's specifically in the ABC Marvel sphere of influence, so it'll share ground with Agents of SHIELD, which acknowledges the events of the movies, but that continuity is strictly one way

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:18 (eight years ago)

I think it would be fascinating for Coulson to pop back up in an Avengers or Captain America movie

a butt groove but for feet (DJP), Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:19 (eight years ago)

most definitely

the thing with this Inhumans series is that it'd make a lot of sense for them to show up in the Marvel space saga stuff coming up, but there's no way it'll happen with everyone else being famous actor dudes and the Inhumans cast being "guy we got for our ill-fated tv show"

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:22 (eight years ago)

maybe they can have Lockjaw show up in Infinity War, but he was too tired to teleport the rest of his people

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:23 (eight years ago)

I've been hoping that they were playing coy about the increasing disconnection between the shows and the movies because they'd planned all along to pull everything back together with the upcoming Avengers movies, but I really don't think that's the case at all (not the least reason being that home video releases of the Marvel shows has ceased altogether in the US).

Duane Quarterdump (Old Lunch), Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:23 (eight years ago)

(Which I learned the hard way once I realized that the AoS season 3 dvd set I bought was actually just a bootleg of something that doesn't exist.)

Duane Quarterdump (Old Lunch), Thursday, 29 June 2017 15:26 (eight years ago)

apparently there are no plans to connect Inhumans and Agents of SHIELD

no one is planning anything, at all

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 18:44 (eight years ago)

oh btw this looks very pretty and very terrible

I like Black Bolt's power manifesting itself as super halitosis, though.

a butt groove but for feet (DJP), Thursday, 29 June 2017 18:50 (eight years ago)

I hope they go with the stupid Lockjaw terigenesis joke at some point

that is, he was a person before he underwent the process and turned into a giant teleporting dog. he can talk like a person but chooses not to

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 18:54 (eight years ago)

I'd say at this point we're probably looking at four de facto 'Marvel Cinematic Universes' under Disney's direct control:

* Movies, plus AoS Season 1 and Agent Carter
* Defenders/Gritverse
* AoS Season 2 onward and/or Inhumans/Hairverse [if 'or' then we have five]
* Cloak and Dagger, which seems to be hanging out on its own.

This isn't even counting Sony's 'Sony Marvel Universe,' IE whatever weirdness it's trying to do with Spider-man even while the MCU is now more intertwined with the main Spider-man films.

Ultimately this is all unsurprising; more amusing is that both this and the DCEU have essentially ended up at the same point re multiple media universes, while from completely different directions. (Consider we have the DCEU films, the Berlantiverse and now Black Lightning, the last also apparently more in its own sphere.) Marvel's selling point was that everything would intertwine from the start but it got more and more frayed as it went; DC's was more of a everything-happening-at-once accident that they ran with, which is one of the few smart decisions they've made.

So in the end the most straightforward organization of the bunch would be Fox and the X-men/Mutants films, and even THOSE are a mess.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:02 (eight years ago)

It's unsurprising but also a bummer but also it was nice while it lasted.

And you forgot the upcoming Runaways, which will be on Hulu and probably again be completely isolated from everything else.

Duane Quarterdump (Old Lunch), Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:06 (eight years ago)

If you count animation, apparently there's a Marvel Animation universe that's directly under Marvel/Disney as well, including Ultimate Spider-Man, two Avengers shows, and the Hulk

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:07 (eight years ago)

I just want to know where Monica Rambeau is.

mh, Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:08 (eight years ago)

Splitting Inhumans off from AoS is incredibly stupid if true, given the amount of Inhuman-related groundwork AoS has laid.

Duane Quarterdump (Old Lunch), Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:17 (eight years ago)

there's also the animated Miles Morales Spider-Man movie at Sony, which is in a different universe again

Old Lynch's Sex Paragraph (Phil D.), Friday, 21 July 2017 13:18 (eight years ago)

This is the first Marvel TV thing that looked like a CW DC TV thing. Which isn't the worst thing in the world, I watch all of that CW stuff, but it's decidedly lower tier and trashier stuff. I'll reserve judgment until I've actually seen the thing.

Things and stuff.

Mandal Envy (Old Lunch), Friday, 21 July 2017 13:20 (eight years ago)

Iron Fist suggests that the justly-vaunted MCU quality control might be starting to slip a bit.

Mandal Envy (Old Lunch), Friday, 21 July 2017 13:21 (eight years ago)

I think the ABC stuff and Netflix stuff are two quality control teams? idk

mh, Friday, 21 July 2017 14:19 (eight years ago)

And the Freeform stuff seems to be another group developing things, although I guess in theory Loeb or whoever is overseeing a few of these areas

mh, Friday, 21 July 2017 14:20 (eight years ago)

Yeah, I think there are separate production teams for each network (or streaming service or whatever the hell blanket term we're using for these things nowadays) and Jeph Loeb oversees all of it. Which, y'know...questionable decision, Marvel. Just sayin'.

If they weren't going to expend every effort to make sure it looked right, I honestly wish they would've just gone the old school half-assed route. Like have a couple of PAs standing behind her spraying red silly string at the camera or something.

cosmic brain dildo (Sparkle Motion), Tuesday, 14 November 2017 17:45 (seven years ago)

I only watched one scene of this where Ken Leung was tied up in a shack with three people standing over him and he went through a convoluted Rube Goldberg-esque escape simulation started by launching his chair into a pole, only when he went to execute it he sort of bounced off and fell on the floor, still tied to the chair. I felt like nothing else in the series was going to top this and left the room.

Well, fwiw Inhumans is meant to be actively bad. Based on the first season of Iron Fist and what little of the tail end of Dexter I've seen (all by the same showrunner), I'm disinclined to argue.
