Ashdown, Clegg and Farron all hideous tbh.

Punnet of the Grapes (Tom D.), Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:03 (seven years ago)

Only goodies here are Ming and Kennedy (although they were not great leadership material for certain reasons).

The other three are a rogues gallery.

Has to be Clegg.

clegg the only one who demonstrably made the country a worse place

Clegg, obs. Feel a bit sorry for Tim, all in all. Charles Kennedy easily the best.

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:08 (seven years ago)

Charlie was against the coalition, Ming wasn't.

Charlie Menzies.

Punnet of the Grapes (Tom D.), Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:19 (seven years ago)

i used to work at pacific quay in glasgow, on the side of the river across from the finnieston crane and thus a vista that is conducive to politicians looking for a glasgow photo-op.

before the 2010 election clegg -mid the Cleggmania that the media insisted we were feeling after his performance in a TV debate - was there for a photo opp in front of a van with his promise to not hike VAT if elected. i could have spat out the window and hit him.

it was increased by 2.5%.

should have bloody spat on him.

Severely tempted to vote Ashdown, who has not redeeming qualities I can think of.

that last QT appearance by Charles when he was pissed seems quite sad in retrospect, and Hislop's sneery responses quite fucking cold considering the poor bugger obv had a very serious drink problem. I know pissed-up politician is probably fair game, but there was something really off about that.

Voted Clegg for his piece-de-resistance - the ConDem T4 program.

calzino, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:35 (seven years ago)

Menzies Colquhoun would be a good name for a Lib Dem leader of the future.

Vince Cable is going to be the new leader, let's see how badly he does.

(Dalziel left off list of wtf spellings above btw)

weird echo of the falsies (Tom D.), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 16:18 (seven years ago)

liked it when vince cable made a total arse of himself talking to undercover telegraph journos saying he could topple the coalition gov, clearly only saying such bluster because they were young women and he was trying to look cool

-_- (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 19:28 (seven years ago)

Irony is that this would probably be the right time for someone like Cable to be leading the LibDems if he hadn't fatally undermined virtually all his previous economic arguments during the coalition.

How he positions himself wrt Corbyn will be interesting.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 19:47 (seven years ago)

it's tricky because there is something in clegg's politics which I really object to (& seem to fit with his U turns/broken promises) but the way he has been scapegoated and generally treated like shit is a good illustration of how awful & negative british political culture is with that all-too-stable mixture of spite & disenfranchisement

ogmor, Thursday, 29 June 2017 14:27 (seven years ago)

hate the "hold my beer" meme but...

“Gender isn’t an issue any more, rightly so,” he adds. “Thanks to Obama, race isn’t really an issue any more – at least, we hope not. And age shouldn’t be, either. It should be who you are and what you have to say.”
