We got Ant-man and the Wasp synopsis (basically, nothing beyond the obvious is mentioned)
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant-Man and The Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a super hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Kinda weird thinking that this is the movie after the first Infinity War one, because it sure lowers the stakes a bit. Unless it's meant to be just post-Civil War per the reused trailer bit.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 14:52 (six years ago) link
They should retcon all 300 Marvel movies and reveal that lil' Ant Man has been in all of them, messing around in the margins. Then they could do the movie equivalent of a clip show, and be all, remember this? Little did you know ... And then zoom in on Ant-man messing around.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 15:10 (six years ago) link
And that movie should be 20 minutes long, and have Samuel L. Jackson as a host, and it should be a TV special.

Scharpling was cut from the first film and has been giving Reed the business about it off and on ever since (they have been friends for a very long time). Scharpling said he got cut from and the Wasp on Tuesday's episode of the Best Show; a long con (by Reed, Scharpling, or both) is not out of the question.

Just out of it myself, enjoyed it a lot. Was worried all the jokes were in the trailer but I needn't have worried. Weirdly though most of the action sequences are in the trailer.
The sheer amount of de-aging was a bit wearisome.
Two post credits scenes for those who can't be arsed sitting through pages of names. Second one inessential imo and you could happily leave after the first which is MCU ESSENTIAL.

Ya, me too. If anything, the "comparing sizes" joke is the worst in the movie so i'm glad they got it out of the way in the trailer.
Was joking that Paul Rudd is the only character where they'd never need to pull off any of that crap with since he's looked pretty much the same for the past 20 years.

― adam, Thursday, 12 July 2018 19:37 (six years ago) link
SPOILERS! I thought this was enjoyable, and I really liked how low the stakes were compared to the previous few Marvel movies. The main conflict rose from both sides wanting to the save the life of a single person, no world-dominating schemes needed here. That said, TAMatW still suffered from the "undeveloped villains" syndrome that's been an issues with most of these movies not featuring Loki. Like, we never even learned why Bill Foster was so willing to risk everything to help Ghost, and what exactly was their relationship. It seemed like he was supposed to be her foster dad, but then the whole "raised by SHIELD to become a perfect assassin" didn't really jibe with that; if he was so protective of Ghost, why would Foster allow them to do that to her? They should've just scrapped the mostly pointless secondary villain (the black market guy) and used the screentime to flesh out Ghost and Foster more. Both actors felt capable of doing more with their characters, but there was so little material given to them. Another thing I thought was great was how the conventional final super-powered brawl was replaced by super-powered chase scene... Since the powers of both the protagonists and the villains are not in their fists or weapons but in their manipulation of space, a finale like that made a lot of sense. That said, the physics of shrinking/growing were even more ridiculous than in the previous movie. Besides the inconsistency of some shrunk objects retaining their original mass when others didn't (which was already there in Ant-Man), there were things like the lab remaining in perfect condition even though the building it was in was tossed around like a football. And when they shrank and regrew those houses in random spots, how does the plumbing and electricity work in them? But that's just the stuff you gotta roll with if you wanna enjoy all the size-change gags, and there were plenty of good ones here.

Ant Man 2 was just sort of there. However, at the end, when Michelle Pfeiffer pops up (I wish it was a surprise, and that she wasn't in the first five minutes), I turned to my kids and said, hey, you know in Uptown Funk when they say "Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold?" not gonna lie to you, its been a few hours and i already dont remember enough, but-
overwrought performance during the dramatic justification was imo out of kilter with movie
justification itself was hideously rushed and piecemeal and despite efforts to make her sympathetic i think they undercooked any efforts by having her so gung-ho to succubus pfeiffer with little to no reason to expect success
when offered efforts to attempt cure in a more reasonable way she said fuckit nah
yes i know traumatic childhood, trained for death, agonised existence, disappointed that fishburne pulled away from commitments (as noted above, the relationship/dynamic here really didnt get very far if in any way examined) but - and this is obv gonna be subjective- i dont think that worked even slightly in a movie where the closest thing it has to a saving grace was avoiding the grim-unto-death tone of most MCUs

i liked the performance but agree that the character's got great material that goes undercooked, and the villainy hard to buy. i would've preferred the techno-anarchist Ghost from the comics but if they were gonna do this one, it needed a little more space to work (would have had to cut the goggins stuff prob) and then yeah you end up losing the zippy, silly tone.

good movie! Rudd is a great and likable superhero and Michael Pena is awesome. Evangeline Lilly is outstanding, i think some of my favorite bits involve her cackling at ant man as he shifts around in sizes. She also is completely believable when she's striding in and beating the hell out of people, like in that first scene w/Goggins and his crew. I liked Ghost tbh, the performance worked a lot w/r/t her past and insane trauma.
Pfeiffer seemed to be psychologically very sound considering her situation for the previous several decades...
