A thread for COMRADE DETECTIVE, Channing Tatum et al's fake Romanian '80s cop show

I've only watched the first episode (of six), but it's pretty entertaining.

Definitely open to readings from different directions. Tatum says it's supposed to highlight in reverse how much anti-communist propaganda we were all fed as kids: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/08/comrade-detective-amazon-channing-tatum-communist-propaganda.

But our chums at National Review basically think it is anti-community propaganda, and they love it: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/450190/comrade-detective-amazons-new-comedy-skewers-communism.

I'm probably susceptible to the show because I own a TV cop leather jacket just like this one:

Yeah, Tatum said they wanted to get rights to an actual series, but they weren't able to so they made their own. It's still filmed in Romania with Romanian actors, though, so it's a good fake.

I was expecting more of a DANGER 5 wackiness but the good fake is actually pretty good. Would prefer no dubbing.

three weeks pass...

This just cribs the Garth Merenghi conceit, really. It didnt work for me, I was bored after half an episode.

I was encouraged enough by episode 3 & 4 to stick with it until the end but I felt let down - the satire sells itself out for a big set piece. See also: Team America.
