This'll almost certainly end up being Sunset Blvd. for me, but this'll be a good time for me to finally crack that Born Yesterday blu-ray I picked up ridiculously cheap a few years ago.

Taylor is possibly at peak beauty, and her little brother is played by future Twin Peaks shrink Russ Tamblyn.

These days I might choose FOTB over Sunset Boulevard for second place.

All About Eve. Sunset Boulevard's the better film, I suppose, but I've never been that big on it. In a Lonely Place might win a 1950 poll; I'd vote for The Asphalt Jungle.

I did rewatch Sunset Boulevard a few weeks back and ... it just barely survives the B-plot material. Not a new wrinkle or anything, that's always been the case.

In A Lonely Place definitely is the one 1950 Hollywood movie I wish were in this lineup aside from ones that already are.

The confident over-reliance on voice-over has always smothered Sunset Boulevard for me.

Though the gentle atmosphere is very MacBethish.

The Third Man won B&W cinematography this year (released in the US in Feb '50, six months after the UK). Carol Reed and the editor were nominated.
