Gonna give this one to cemetery of splendor

Anne of the Thousand Gays (Eric H.), Friday, 27 October 2017 20:49 (seven years ago)

jesus, your netflix is better than ours

hard to be a god and arabian nights are two of the greatest things i've ever seen but there's plenty here that seems good

the Invitation is ok but not as great as it could've been. The Host (assuming that's this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Host_(2006_film)) is very good, I'd go with that.

I've been meaning to see Arabian Nights myself, didn't know it was on Netflix!

Οὖτις, Friday, 27 October 2017 20:52 (seven years ago)

i mean i voted for it on the understanding it's the 3-part portuguese surreal quasi-documentary and not some other lesser arabian nights

imago, Friday, 27 October 2017 20:53 (seven years ago)

need to start using a VPN again to get that sweet US netflix selection

-_- (jim in vancouver), Friday, 27 October 2017 20:54 (seven years ago)

yeah, it's the 3-part thing. i watched half an hourof it ages ago and knew that i would need some uninterrupted time to watch properly.

scott seward, Friday, 27 October 2017 20:58 (seven years ago)

Hard to be a God is bewildering and extraordinary, definitely watch it.

jmm, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:06 (seven years ago)

i'm gonna watch them all! and that has been on a mental list of mine since forever. years even. except now i'm looking on instantwatcher and i don't see it...oops...

scott seward, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:19 (seven years ago)

Beasts of No Nation is garbage. The Host is a big personal fave, and Memories Of Murder by the same director.

calzino, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:25 (seven years ago)

Hard To Be a God + The Tribe are also brilliant imo.

calzino, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:26 (seven years ago)

"Beasts of No Nation is garbage."

good to know! i don't really know why i have avoided it...i kinda avoided it.

scott seward, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:39 (seven years ago)

Hmm, gonna say The Invitation, which is tense and scary and since not many people have seen it has not have been ruined for you. Likely.

xp
It is one of them movies about serious issues that is seriously shit, and Idris Elba is enjoying his performance much more than you, the viewer is.

calzino, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:49 (seven years ago)

it wouldn't be my choice but Train to Busan is a very, very good film. at its best its as good as any of the fast zombie movies. i do have some issues w/it, i'll just quote a previous post i made:

busan was about thirty min too long, i actually thought the part where they forced the half a dozen people who'd made it through alive into the front car, followed by the zombies being let in, was a good place to leave the story. my biggest issue was that terrible shoehorned in villain character, which is my exact least favorite type of villain: this craven, cowardly guy who thinks only of himself and gets everyone else killed. i mean there were literally three moments in the final act where he grabbed a character and pushed them into a pursuing zombie so he could escape. devoted way, way too much time to him, time i'd rather have spent watching the uneasy alliance between Seok-woo (the fund manager dad) and Sang-hwa (the working class dude.) nothing wrong with the performances whatsoever, the first couple acts are insane in the best way. but that last stretch, idk.

i'd probably pick The Host.

nomar, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:52 (seven years ago)

The Host is probably the greatest monster pic of the last decade. i have never seen anything come to close to it in that genre.

calzino, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:52 (seven years ago)

low bar and all that, but a great movie.

calzino, Friday, 27 October 2017 21:53 (seven years ago)

host>>>>>>>>>>>>>Busan. I really didn't like the latter, but loved the former.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 27 October 2017 22:07 (seven years ago)

I Am Love, if your screen is big enough to capture the details.

Eazy, Saturday, 28 October 2017 04:27 (seven years ago)

The Tribe is best seen in a theater w a bewildered audience.
