Pajamas: Classic or Dud?

I apparently see no need to use pajamas, considering the shocking regularity in which I wake up in the clothes I was wearing the night before. Should it be socially acceptable to sleep in your clothes? Why does everyone go, "Ooer, you're a lush!" when you do it? What are your favorite pajamas anyhow?

Tangentially related: taking sides: Sleeping in your bed or passing out on the bathroom floor?

Ally, Friday, 17 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bed, please. Otherwise I get backaches.

As for pyjamas, when young I lurved them, especially, but of course, the feety kind. Teenagerdom led to me just wearing underwear, and these days not a stitch when I sleep. Simplicity itself. But the concept of silk pyjamas are interesting, I just don't think they'd look good on me, is all.

I have felt cowboy pajamas that i wear when company is over .

anthony, Friday, 17 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, you're a pimp.

Ally, Friday, 17 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aren't we all pimps and playas in this, the sleaziest of worlds? *retires to sylvan glen to study poetry and look keenly off into the middle distance*

Sleeping in yr bed, 'cause if you have people over you tend to become a target on the bathroom floor.

And pyjamas = pointless waste of cloth for prudes. What are the sheets for? Tho robes are classic.

tha chzza, Friday, 17 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The problem with sleeping in your clothes is you always wake up at 4:00 covered in sweat, or at least I do. Full pyjamas are not great, however, but pyjama bottoms with a t-shirt are, also because they are the only time you might actually want to wear the hundreds of novelty XL size t-shirts that you seem to end up burdened with.

As Nick D will soon be frothing, "you" = "one"

Where do kimonos feature in this?

Al, Friday, 17 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Summer sleep wear is much more difficult (oh yeah, that nude thing) than winter. Sleeping in your clothes only leads to wrinkles and odors. The Strokes look like they slept in their clothes and on the bathroom floor and they are onto something. Yeah, pajamas: classic.

matthew, Saturday, 18 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pajamas are only useful to put on after you come out of bed. I don't want the neighbours seeing me naked.

I never have to bring along pajamas to Japan cause they have cotton pajamas in hotelrooms.

People look better in suits and uniforms. Pyjamas are like suits or uniforms. Therefore, people should wear pyjamas QED

maryann, Saturday, 18 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i still sleep in what's left of my clothes and some combination of pjs and undies if it's cold, if it's hot, fuck it...bed is better than abthroom floor, though i once slept very comfortably in an empty bath.

Geoff, Saturday, 18 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bed? Bathroom?

Look in the nearest gutter - there you shall find me.

DavidM, Saturday, 18 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I don't want the neighbours seeing me naked."

Why the hell not? I do.

DavidM, Saturday, 18 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What of 'Bananas in Pajamas'?

DavidM, Saturday, 18 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pajamas = classic, sleeping naked = icky. I have issues.

Tart!

I used to wear pyjamas a lot. The stripy drawstring kind. I grew up with them and forgot to make a teenage rebellion decision to change my habits. But they do tend to um.. twist in the night and cause discomfort so DUD.

I have never passed out on bathroom floor in my life. I have fallen asleep on the loo once though. And in the bath itself.

Nick, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pajamas make me feel spoiled rotten. Sleeping in my clothes makes me feel dirty. Sleeping naked doesn't but my tendency to get really cold, finally fall asleep, and then throw all the covers off makes me wake up freezing and get no sleep.

Sleeping in bed wins over passing out on the bathroom floor, but sleeping on a porch floor wins.

Lyra, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I sleep in my clothes, and find it very comfortable. Except I have to rememebr to take my wallet out of my back pocket, otherwise weird feelings in morning. Also, I sometimes forget to take off my jacket before sleep = alovasudden wake up hot!

Sterling Clover, Monday, 20 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Generally sleeping naked is good but I always forget when I go to stay at my parent's house and my mum tends to barge in first thing with a cup of tea with the rest of the family in hot pursuit so then pyjamas are crucial. If sleeping naked it is also vital to make sure your door shuts properly.

Sleeping with clothes on only if: I'm ill; at my mum's; sharing a room on holiday with Pete (NB he was not so modest, readers).

Emma, Monday, 20 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Banana in Pajamas is easily the best show ever created, I wish it was on every night.

Anyhow, my neighbors across the shaft in the other building are always seeing me naked. They like it, what's the harm? Stephanie's friend saw me naked too cos she didn't tell me she turne don the web cam. Who hasn't seen me naked?

Ally, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I heart Bananas In Pajamas. I love that all British children's shows seem to have been created while on serious hallucinogens.

PJs themselves are classic when scrunched up in a ball next to the bed.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pyjamas = quite cute on girls, but too hot for me to sleep in. I go for the underwear/nothing option myself.

Ally C, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yesterday in fit of panic had to buy a pair of pajama's for my Dad who has just been admitted into hospital. Discovery. No-one sells pajama's anymore. Searched all around camden for a pair, in the end I made do with a couple of soft T-Shirts and a few pairs of swim shorts.

Death of the pajama - discuss.

Pete, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't tell me what to do.

Nick, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The pyjama is dead, long live nudity!

Emma, Tuesday, 21 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pyjamas are still alive and kicking in a land where St.Michael is king.... you can also get a cracking prawn and egg roll while you're there.

Hmmmmm.....reVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw an interview with one of the QEFTSG guys who was saying that guys should wear pj bottoms when sleeping. Personally, I think pyjamas are uncomfortable--sleeping in anything is uncomfortable, even when it's cold. But that's not the point. Point is,

What's sexiest to see your partner sleeping in? Nothing? PJs? Underwear that's funtowear? Which?

I wore a paisley flannel pajama top for the first day at my first ever job after college. I paired it with black corduroy trousers and black wingtips. It may have been this outfit more than any other that led a work buddy to say, months later, that I "dress like a retarded person."

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

You have to be cruel to be kind, T.H.

Skottie, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Women in pyjamas = classic. Mmmmm......

"Do you sleep in the nude?"

"Only when I'm naked."

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

does falling asleep in your jeans count?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Count as being naked? Only if they're constructed from clear vinyl. Then of course, strictly speaking, they're not jeans, I suppose.

Skottie, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Pyjama bottoms avec girly vest = comfy + cute
