Marcello Carlin, Friday, 1 November 2002 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 1 November 2002 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

OK as long as its not on thursday then it'll be OK.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 1 November 2002 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Duke, duke, duke, Duke of York, york, york...

Yes I am highly lazy.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 1 November 2002 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

nicole's FAP is at the end of November

Fancy A Pint, Part Infinity..... (late November)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 November 2002 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i think i'm up for a beer on wednesday

gareth (gareth), Friday, 1 November 2002 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too - Thursday, I'd have to leave early for my first Film Festival flick, so Wednesday is better. Tuesday or Friday would be okay too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 1 November 2002 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

that's it Gareth, next time in New York yore cummin to Meow Mix!

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 2 November 2002 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm booked Thursday. Wednesday I might be late - I have a meeting with some US business bloke but it's in London so, yeah. I can't think about booze at the moment though, my life is a ruin.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 2 November 2002 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, definitely! Next time Gareth's in NYC we must meet at Meow Mix for a proper L.E.S. lez-up (with thanks to Tracer Hand for that joke)!

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 3 November 2002 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's do Wednesday! Can the Steering Committee name the place, please?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 3 November 2002 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I can come to this.

Graham (graham), Sunday, 3 November 2002 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

When is the 7th?Is that Thursday? Because I can't come then. But Wednesday (with it being 6th) is okay.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

wednesday the 6th.

where? suggestions then, over to you

gareth (gareth), Monday, 4 November 2002 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Not fussed. We could go to ....

A BAR!

*runs for cover in manner of Sugababe*

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there and I'm not too bothered.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 November 2002 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

le cafe de la belle marguerite, chiswick.

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Too far West! We need somewhere central. Preferably within a short walk of my office on Tottenham Court Road, since I am old and therefore should not be expected to walk too far.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 4 November 2002 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

martin didn't you ever listen to hancock's half hour when you were a nipper?

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin, come on, new excuse please. You say that every time.

(Although Chiswick is bloody miles from anywhere, any place on the far-flung-here-be-dragons reaches of the district line = bad bad bad.)

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

with people living north, south, west and east, somewhere zone 1 or 2 seems preferable, but i dont really mind.

where do you suggest then, Anna (i'm wondering if it might be nice to go somewhere different this time)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 4 November 2002 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

zone 1 is good!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 November 2002 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

blimey no one remembers hancock's half hour except me :-(

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I might come actually.

Graham (graham), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Sun and Thirteen is a nice Soho pub. There's one on Great Portland/ Tichfield Street which is only ever refered to as The Kings Thing (it is either Head or Arms) which is nice and has a good jukebox. There is a bar under the Phoenix Theatre which is HUGE and cheapish. That might be an idea.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Theatre Bar, under the Phoenix Theatre, Charing Cross Road
One of the quietest and most pleasant bars around the Central West end. Reasonable prices (Murphys @ £2-45), does fairly priced food (again, for the west End). No dogs, andbeing a basement accesible only by steps, not good for disabled folk. Decent atmosphere.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't meow mix in chasing amy?

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna - that's not fair for the ILx disabled folk now is it. Or do they put you off your drinks? I'd second the Su and Thirteen Cantons cos its alright and often has a convivial bunch of disabled people having fun in the corner.

More frightening news for older ILxOrs - I have heard rumours the The KoC is no more and has been tarted up as the Enterprise (a Str Trek theme bar).

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(i was gonna ask that, g-kit. i assume it's the same bar/venue)

Anna: Although Chiswick is bloody miles from anywhere, any place on the far-flung-here-be-dragons reaches of the district line = bad bad bad.

yes, chiz chiz. BUT I HAVE NOW MOVED, cheers cheers cheers. I am back in proper london and feeling v smiley.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh come on, I copied and pasted that off some site somewhere else. Blah. It is a decent place (well you can fit a lot of people in - good for ILX meet ups). Does anyone have any kind of mobility issues?

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a wooden leg.

(this is a lie)

Graham (graham), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You seem to forget that having met you I can spot this is a lie.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

So that's why why you keeping putting your hand on my knee?

(and I thought you were being affectionate. blubblubblub MWAAAAAAAH mwa wa WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH)

Graham (graham), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the idea of a good jukebox.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

he might have a wooden leg at home though

gareth (gareth), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The only problem with that is I can't remember the name of the pub (I can endevour to find out). It's one of those places I can walk to and find, but directions are hard to give.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 November 2002 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it this one Anna?

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub846.htm

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That's the one I assumed Anna meant, Pete.

It's smallish and kind of triangular inside, yes? Might be a touch small for our purposes?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember HHH, Marcello, but only through repeats and records.

Jeff W (Jeff W), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete? HEIN?!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Meow Mix is indeed in Chasing Amy

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been told that the King Of Corsica is now called The Enterprise (the star trek themed bit might be a joke)

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Not that I go to pub meets anyway, but Grt Portland St is where my crushee works ... Ring up Jane and say "bring OTGC down the pub tonight, please..." now that WOULD be stalking. Not to mention the idea that I wouldn't want to frighten him with IL* folk so soon. After all, IL* folk frighten even me...

kate, Monday, 4 November 2002 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot join you as i am taking meg up the arsenal...

...they are playing sunderland in the worthington cup...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 November 2002 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i cannot join you as i can't be arsed.

no offence.

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't want to go anywhere triangular.

alix (alix), Monday, 4 November 2002 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

everywhere is triangular if you cut it right. rectangular room = 2 triangles, octagonal room = 5 triangles etc

um, can i ask how "lez up" replaced FAP?

Alan (Alan), Monday, 4 November 2002 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

You started it.

Graham (graham), Monday, 4 November 2002 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

fapfapfap

mark s (mark s), Monday, 4 November 2002 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still coming, though my umbrella isn't standing up to the ravages of actually trying to keep rain off me. The quality of products today! You pay a whole pound for an umbrella, and it lasts less than a year!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, Martin, that'll teach you not to try carrying it with one finger whilst simultaneously holding the 832 CDs you just bought in HMV with the remainder of your viable limbs!

Denise Lambert, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

it is miserable and grey outside at the moment. i can't even persuade myself to go out for lunch. seriously need to get some writing done (having been out with mark s and doomie last night) so i doubt that i will be able to make an appearance this evening.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

marcello- or, in other words, you cannot be arsed!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

well, there's that point of view, certainly.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

*snorts derisively at mention of doomie*

yeah the weather is blahing me out also. stuck in library thinking of new ways to trash flaubert while realising the irony it's taken me an hour to get the right sentence together. found some old wire mags in the archive tho!! issue 100 has been vandalised IN PENCIL so it now reads "pretentious all ways". this has pleased me greatly, well done mark s. also the t-shirt adverts are hilarious. anyway may still pop in but i didn't get round to copying strange strings yet soz julio.

keep em peeled for more compulsive updates on ppl you've never met right here

bob zemko (bob), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

is alison houston not marcello then?

bob zemko (bob), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yes.

and i shall endeavour to be there for 7.30, i shall be in need of booze afeter hairdye and washing machine mishaps:( (probably wont make it till 8 though as usual)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

bob- i was joking abt bringing copies of recs. just come in and have a drink!

''*snorts derisively at mention of doomie*''

what's wrong with doomie (hehe). it would be nice if he and dave q made an appearance.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, what color did you dye your hair? And, how was the London lez up?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Won't make it as it's *looks at watch* NINE PM already! And I'm still slaving over a bloody corporate press release that I've re-written about 50 million times already. Gah!

A shame, as I was hoping to see everyone and would have liked to have had the chance to apologize to Kate the Saint in person for being a twat to her on ILX a few days ago. And you could have had the chance to punch my face in, Kate! Maybe at the next FAP!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I also chose to come home and watch the football. Wish I hadn't bothered now.

*Flounce* *Strop*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

The football was also ion in the pub.

Sorry - double tsk and gah and all that.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You also all missed Kate's [medieval] Andrew WK impression.

I have missed my coach cos the Victoria line took half an hour longer than it should, and I've decided to stay here for the rest of the day. Anyone up for lunch?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 7 November 2002 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

's pain

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 7 November 2002 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

:D

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah it was good. but i didn't get to meet bob.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't got a hangover, but bloody hell I'm tired. Damn Spanish Bar, damn it.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

This was fun. Couldn't stay long because had to meet friends at one friend's club, which was like Bunjies (RIP) for rich people. Friends also pissed themselves at story of P****e A****w reading aloud the QM/baby's blood bits of 12ft Lizards book.

Mark, we have to take Doomie to the Thai greasy spoon. He needs some meat on those bony bony bones.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

the spanish bar was a mistake and i cannot forgive those that coerced me into this course of action.

i have a hangover. i always have a hangover when i go out, it is just not fair

mary: supposedly dark brown, but it is near black:(

anna: email re: nag nag nag on way shortly

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel right as ruin, I mean rain. A lovely time at the Spanish Bar spoiled only by the BESTIAL TABLE MANNERS of a certain ILXeR.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Fools!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete was very civillised on the way home. We even stopped singing Summer Nights.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way Lixi and I have found a giant crossword in some crappy magazine or other and will be bringing it soon to a pub near (some of) you.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

1. I'd forgotten about the left-overs incident. Ew.

2. Gareth, it was your idea!

3. I don't feel as bad as I might. I actually had a very good night out, hurrah! And I didn't have to wait long for the bus! And I woke up from my dribbling slumber just before my bus stop!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim, didn't we spend half the evening pointing out that even going out at a normal time WAS ALL GARETH'S IDEA?

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 7 November 2002 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh you can't expect me to remember tiny details like what I was doing for half the evening.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 7 November 2002 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I'd staeyd in the pub and not stayed up until the misery of the cricket got too much and I gave in to sleep.

chris (chris), Thursday, 7 November 2002 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

what did i tell you chris! I mean, just what the fuck was nasser thinking abt?!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Jonnie has a theory on that, in that it would be less harmfull to the team to have runs scored against them than to get skittled over in threee sessions. I thought that smacked of damage limitation and a lack of confidence.

I felt soooo sorry for poor Jonesy, the way he knackered that knee looked absolutely horrible.

chris (chris), Thursday, 7 November 2002 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The way the bloke on the radio described it this morning gave me THE WILLIES!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 7 November 2002 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

''I felt soooo sorry for poor Jonesy, the way he knackered that knee looked absolutely horrible''

well especially after taking that first wicket. what an excellent delivery! what a heartbreaker.

This will prob be his last tour as captain (i know he said he was going to stop after the world cup but i always thought that if england had a good tour (ie 2-2 score) then he might have stayed beyond that).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

London ILxers are of hearty stock, FAPing on weeknights! So then Gareth, was your New York hair color natural or not?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

nyc hair color natural yes.

i have just realised that i spent a lot of money last night:(

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't figure out if I still have a hangover or if it's food poisoning. Poor Suzy called at 10am and narrowly missed me throwing up. I never ended up at the Spanish Bar. They sent me upstairs to check on the Irish bar, and someone bought me a pint that they wouldn't let me downstairs with, and I ended up trapped BEHIND the rockabilly/skiffle band and couldn't get out and ended up being chatted up by rastafarians and Chinese translaters from Leeds. By the time I got out and made it downstairs again, everyone had GONE!

Was much more fun than I expected, though.

Merry merry hard, dude!

kate, Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a pleasure to meet more of the ILX massive last night, but I'm v. v. glad that I bottled out of the Spanish Bar when I did.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot believe you actually went to the ¡Spanish Bar!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 7 November 2002 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry Kate, I spewed on the bus home (though I blame Cheese and Onion pasties. Will I never learn?)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

cheese and onion pasties must go! (all over the bus seat)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

No [GROSSNESS ALERT], I spewed into a paper doughnut bag, which was suprisingly waterproof. However when I took to the toilet on the bus, just as I was pouring it away the lid slammed shut and the bottom of the bag fell out, and there were no paper towels left (I tidied it up as best I could with a Metro)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

GRAHAM I'M HAVING SPAGHETTI HERE!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't you read?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

well should be in bold actually.

i don't read. i speed read.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"having spaghetti" = new WORST EUPHEMISM EVER.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 November 2002 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

good work perry

crikey the one day i leave the net alone and ile detonates. obv this means i'll have to grace lez-up XI no?

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 7 November 2002 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

other terrible euphemism = "going to the spanish bar"

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 7 November 2002 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

zemko we all blame you

mark s (mark s), Friday, 8 November 2002 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

ha we are all marcello's personas

bob zemko (bob), Friday, 8 November 2002 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna go to the next fapping lez up.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 8 November 2002 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a great time as usual, and was very pleased to meet Kate (masonicboom Kate, Katie G didn't show) and Jerry the Nipper. I left early (i.e. about 11) because I had work the next day, and at my age I need a reasonable night's sleep.
